Worked a Vintage and Historic OPC race in southern MD this past weekend. Took my 14yr old son who was not thrilled at the thought of hanging around a boat race all weekend. Put a boat hook in his hand and put him on the dock Sat morning and by Sat afternoon he had made friends with drivers and crew, getting compliments for his efforts. Told me we had to get him some water shoes Sat night so he could work the ramp Sunday. I did. By the end of the weekend he was offered a 14 Allison to fix up on the condition that he help me work on it and learn to run it.

There were several offspring of former and current drivers participating and some drivers new to OPC. This is a way to get into fast boats, some "competition", and comraderie at an affordable cost. No winners and losers at the end of the day everyone who participated won in their own way. Go to Facebook and search Southern Maryland Boat Club, Robin Hammett, and Brittanie Long Adkins. Some great pictures.

This is a great way to keep our sport alive for the upcoming round of drivers.

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Let me in on that restore if you have to do glass work. It would be a good learning experience.

I started a thread in build ups on it, I gonna mess around with it this winter, I got to get some new tires where the old ones are dry rotted, did rocky ever show u any pics of it, it is going to be a killer little boat whenever it is done, I did not take any yet, it has a nice 25 2 cyl, that still turns over, not sure of the year, hoping someone on here could tell me after a few pics, cause I'm pretty sure it is twice as old as I am

I've gotta say this is a factor for me at 64, along with the heavy traffic, and big wakes we get on our river that kept the boat on the hoist even during the week the last couple of years. Trying to keep the passion going by passing it on to my son also. He's been on a fast boat with me since he was an infant. He's had an opportunity to drive some cool boats so far, and will have his own next summer (thats the goal)

We picked up the pictured vixen below from Lynn, not only will he have a blast in it, but, Lynn says he will hurt some feelings on the rivers.

He's pretty excited to get it on the water too. We gave it a decent surface sanding to smooth out all the little stuff on the deck, got a few more busy weeks of Fall sports, then I am hoping he is ready to really start digging in over the winter.

The trend towards gigantic boats with gigantic wakes (Cruisers, CC's, Bigger go fasts, wake boats, etc) has really put a hurtin' on small boats. No one wants to get the **** kicked out of them on every boat ride, it isn't fun and gets old fast. I don't mind sticking to the smaller inland lakes anymore because of it, just makes the day more enjoyable.

Bought the Superboat because of this, along with having Grandchildren, but now my Wife says she prefers a tunnel hull outboard, so who knows if I'm really done.
