Curvature of the earth's effect on ship building.

The curvature of the earth is more than a centimeter over the length of a modern mega-cruise-liner, container ship, or aircraft carrier. Therefore, naval architects have to factor that in when building said ships on dry docks.

A tidbit (that does not apply to Small Craft but of interest), that I was unware of until now.

Am I the only one who's wondering how many 450R's are hanging off the transom?

Along those lines...It is quite a bit easier to launch a satellite east from the equator due to the 3000 MPH the rocket is already moving [along with earth it sits on].

I’m sure you’re correct but it’s hard to believe that half an inch of ‘hook’ in the hull of an aircraft carrier will effect its handling at high speed?

You'd think they would just pour the concrete that the ship is being built on, flat and level from one end to the other. Laser levels don't bend with the curvature of the Earth.
