    Welp , I reckon ...

It's a water diverter to lower the coefficient of hydrodynamic drag numbers ..

Bulbous bow, aka ‘Leno Bow’, is purely for cosmetic reasons. (I checked with it’s designer)

The bulb modifies the way the water flows around the hull, reducing drag and thus increasing speed, range, fuel efficiency, and stability. Large ships with bulbous bows generally have twelve to fifteen per cent better fuel efficiency than similar vessels without them.

Was looking for the video (obviously you all know this )but watching the video and how just changing the wake pattern can make that much of a difference is amazing the videos got to be decades old think i watched it like 3 decades ago on actual tv on How things work or ????

The purpose of the bow bulb is to create a pressure wave that ripples down the hull and reduces drag. It may not look like it, but it works.

At first, they tried adding steps to the hull on the recommendation of Reggie Fountain. Although it made the hull somewhat faster, they had serious problems getting it off the trailer at the ramp.

Nature did it first, and they learned from them.
