books on rigging
Hi folks
Does anybody have a book on this topic that they can recommend?
And if anyone has a good way of measuring a propeller that isn't
stamped with diameter and pitch please let me know!

I have never seen a book on rigging. You could just ask questions here and ask for pictures.
it might be possible to buy a propeller pitch gage. Most props are progressive pitch now (different from root to tip of blade. I have no idea how the prop makers average this.
is there a part number on the prop?

I found the pitch on the back of the hub. It's a 24 pitch four blade ski prop.
The boat should do 78mph with the right setup, but with this prop I only get 60mph. How much should I go up in pitch?
The boat is a hydrolift r20 with a '97 mercury 200 efi
Edit: I checked the prop slip in a calculator and comes out at 0.15 slip. Is this too much?Last edited by hydrohench; 10-03-2021 at 12:15 PM.

More pitch, 28 would be a good start. Do you have a low water pick up? Water pressure gauge?

The outboard has a nosecone. The water pressure doesn't work, but I noticed that the sparkle has come loose and is no longer sealing the original water pickup. I'm guessing that would make the pump draw air, and something that needs to be fixed. The boat is now on land for the winter and there's a lot to fix before next season. The prop calculator I used suggested a pitch of 31 with a 0.15 slip and a top speed of 78. Is that way to much?

Yes indeed make sure the cone and water system is all ship shape and the gauge is operating before pushing limits.
That motor should spin to 5800. If you have patience and a prop shop to work with Im sure you can get the slip less than 15% which will get you your number in the 28-30P range. I took a quick search, looks like a superboat type hull with a pad V so a cupped chopper type prop is where I would start. Or maybe a Bravo 30 but Its a lot of prop to spin though. If you want to really dial it in your going to have to try a bunch and see what you like and what works best. Unless you know someone with the identical hull and motor to copy their successes might narrow your choices down.Hydrostream dreamin
