Tempest Plus Propeller 21" 1992 Merury 175hp
Greetings to All,
Need some input please. I recently purchased a used Tempest Plus 21p prop "only used once" to replace a High Five 26p that I was using. The High Five was only giving me 5000 rpm wot. My issue is, that after installing the Tempest, I have a bad case of prop rattle. Initially I thought that the prop must have been damaged or out of balance. I took it to thr local prop shop and they said there is nothing wrong with the prop. So, back to the prop rattle. I've done some research and apparently Mercury has a Flo-Torcq SSR hub kit that is supposed to help with the prop rattle vibration issue. Does anyone know if the SSR hub kit will work with an older Merc. I have a 1992 175 hp Merc.
Any input will be greatly appreciated - Thanks

SSR is for fat shaft, which your motor did not come with.
despite your prop shop I suspect balanceLast edited by David; 09-24-2021 at 07:28 PM.

I think they make an SSR for a 1" shaft as well.
SSR Hub Kit for 1" (Standard Shaft) EnginesNew SSR Hub Kit for 1" Propshaft Engine Models. Well suited to the smaller Fourstrokes, can be run on anything up to 300hp with a 1" Propshaft.
Just like the Racing SSR Hub Kit, it provides reduced clutch rattle and smoother shift/operation while still providing a durable hub.
-1" Shaft PLASTIC SSR Hub Kit (normally used on 150hp or below): 8M0150151 (Mercury) 8M0150152 (Quicksilver)
-1" Shaft SSR "Solid" Kit is: 8M0101602 (Mercury) or 8M0101604 (Quicksilver)
-1.25" Propshaft Models, use 8M0101601 (Mercury) or 8M0101603 (Quicksilver)

I ran a 21" tempest + on my 20' Lake and Bay with a 250hp SHO. Despite it being pretty underpropped, I could still spin it 6200 rpms and 63.6 mph. I didn't have any rattle or vibration at any speed. I ran a Mercury flotorque hub kit in it. Perhaps your thrust washer isn't seated correctly, or perhaps the prop is out of balance.
