    Vindicator 225 build

Ok guys so I built a 1995 vindicator 200 about 2 years ago. When I built it I lifted the exhaust ports to a 225 knocked down all the slag and ****ty castings. Then put 1989 225 reed cage reeds and crabs on it and put cdi stator, trigger and power pack with the stock fly wheel.
The motor has be great was pushing my 91 charger TV 21ft to 84mph on the GPS with a 28 raker. So now I just finished building an 89 hydrostream vking and put the vindicator on it and we'll needless to say what a different beast the vking is compared to a modified v lol but that's beside the point.
So about a month a go the motor decided that it didn't want to go on plan and sneezed coughed once or twice and then nothing won't start or run.
Anyways was planning on doing some more work to it this year so didn't really take anytime to diagnose the problem.
So the plan is tear it down close up the exhaust reliefs and possibly shave my heads a bit I'm only running 90psi compression right now would like to get up to 110 or 120 I also bought a gold fly wheel that I'm planning on putting on it I have the bearing carrier for it now I'm wondering what stator trigger and electronics I should put on with it and to be honest I'm sick and tired of the ****ty omc electronics in the 4 years I've been running this motor I've gone through 2 power packs 1 stator and a trigger and I'm betting the problem I had with it this year is a power pack again so is there an alternative that I can use with the gold flywheel?

I would use the individual powerpack set up from a 1986/87. Get a 4 coil stator from cdi, find some NOS power packs and a trigger on ebay if you can.

So the 35amp cdi stator will work with the gold flywheels so basically that's the setup I have now I'm running a 1989 cdi power pack the stock cdi stator and trigger and original vindicator coils so that should all work? Any other suggestions

Basically i wouldn't use anything you have, the big 35 amp stator will not work with the gold flywheel, those flywheels use the non vented looper/xflow size stators. IMO The best setup is to get a 9amp stator with 4 ignition driver/charge coils, this is what was on the f1v8, You will not find the omc version available so you will need to get it from CDI.. hopefully they still make it. I have made them in the past from xflow stators by adding the driver coils. Next i would look on ebay and find the 1986/87 power packs, they used 2 instead of one in those years, im sure u can find some new in the box at a good price, i think the original stuff is superior to cdi but that's up to you.. the trigger for that year motor will also be needed and an original omc would be best in my book. the voltage regulator you have wont work but now you will use the cheap 2 step 9amp that never gives any problems. Ebay may seem hokey to some but if you look carefully at what you buy you can get good stufff... look at the power pack mount holes for screw marks and the clean original box is a must plus look at seller feedback. I just bought 3 new in the box 2cyl unlimited rpm powerpacks for 35.00 a piece they were never opened. You can use CDI stuff but thats up to you.

X2 if you can find the parts..

Wait were the parts that sh the bed were from CDI ?
or stock omc/Evinrude stuff? It says ****ty omc..
I will say that i usually didnt have a problem w UNTILL i started using both on the same motor.Or any of the crap aftermarket stuff... either all of one or the other... NO idea why could just be coincidence too. But also all the omc stuff is getting old..So just watch for the NOS stuff on ebay they do have them..(bastards try and pull crap like NOS ..just used for a year or so..lol)
I actually like ebay too you can find alot of guys selling NOS cleaning out marinas or garages etc
On top of the few problems they had anyway.
CDI electronics fixes all those too.

I think the basic power packs are 6700rpm limited they did make unlimited versions but probably will be hard to locate in NOS OMC these days, I have ran this exact set up to 9200 and never had an issue, the 2 pack system is less complicated, does not have quick start and you get rid of the 35 amp alternator/regulator thats really not needed on small boats. looks like the stator is still avail at cdi https://www.cdielectronics.com/product/273-3672rs/

.. Yes they are 6700 limited..
I looked for a long time for the unlimited a never found one..at least you only need one tho
CDI does make an 8500rpm pack..if your looking for over 6700
I have them on my motors.. actually have all CDI electronics including new wire harnesses.
If you have an old power pack and want to experiment w one you can drill it to get rid of the limiter i cant remember exactly where to drill it.. i know someone on here remembers. I have done it and it works just cant find the pic or map i had of where to drill. And figured 8500 enough..

But H2Operf definitely has the right idea if you can find the parts.

I have had good luck on ebay but you have to be up front and message the seller with your intentions, i just bought some NOS gears and i told the dude if they have 1 spec of rust i will send em back and the feed back will be ugly, lol. they were perfect as he said.. Maybe cdi has better QC these days, the stators look great, but i have changed quite a few packs and the small oem xflow packs rarely failed. Your right 8500 was the other omc version, though i had some unlimited ones from SE. Instigator probably has the notes on digging out the epoxy and clipping the limiters., most guys will never see 8500 like you said.

I assume your going with the setup h20perf mentioned

This is just for shop around advive.. so also look for the kits .. power pack and timing base have to go together..
They had stator, power pack ,timing base and regulator in a kit..
And i got all my stuff for both motors for less than $1200
BUT I do have the 8500rpm which was actually cheaper then too.
The 6700 wasnt that much more..
I dont know what prices are like now but one place was blackbearsports.Com was one place but website isnt loading?

    $700. https://www.boatownersworld.com/incl...3-6667k-2.html

Just shows one of the kits.
    https://www.cdielectronics.com/produ...also-purchased

Place i bought everything isnt coming up anymore
    Lowcostboatingstore.com
Showing up as ebay store ????

And actually not true the wiring harnesses arent included in that price..

Last I checked, CDI still made the 8200 (?) limited, dual packs and my luck w/their stuff has been excellent!

To run the 9 amp system for the gold flywheel you have to run, I think, a v-4 cross flow Upper carrier which mounts the stator lower to clear the flywheel.

Im sure Al will be along shortly to correct us all

I have it all in my notes, somewhere.

I ran that system on FrankenRude I to 8700, bazillions of times, for yrs, I think w/CDI packs and never touched the ignition!
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.
