    Mercury - Clean Power Circuit

I'm currently doing a Merc V8 ProXS repower project and have encountered a wiring circuit that is new to me (Installation manual).
What is a "Clean Power" circuit? (2 wire 5 amp fused circuit directly from starting battery to ECM via 2 wire connector)
The circuit is non-switched and provides 12VDC to the ECM on a continuous basis?
Why not have a "jumper" circuit connected to the battery leads at the engine instead of 2 wires going all the way back to the starting battery?
What happens to the ECM when the circuit is disconnected? System reboot? Memory wipe?

Clean power powers the bus. It's critical to have good unmolested power.

Nothing really. It's wired per installation manual. Still does not make any sense if the ground path is common and a "ecu jumper" wire is connected to the engine's positive battery terminal. Doesn't change a thing when it comes to circuit load / drain. I wish a Mercury electrical engineer would answer this post?
