Tips of 25 years
Had interesting conversation last night about my absents from S&F well long story but due to several inquiries I’m going to try and help as long as I’m allowed .
How many of us have stripped the heads off Reed plate screws because the application of red loctite … Well found a method that eliminates that issue, I put the complete cages from motor and install in toaster oven and heat to 400 degrees while hot submerge in ice water , after cooling the screws can be removed by hand no more stripped heads. Then when assembly use blue loctite , problem solved ..

I hate the smell of burning epoxy,I tie wrap the trigger on a soldering iron so it stays hot.Touching the tip to the screw head 3-4 seconds kills the locktite and the screw comes out easily.Good to see you back,Chris

Don't use a flashlight with a magnet base when building gearcases...somehow the needle bearings will always find their way to that magnet on your bench...
Jay I'm glad to see you here and look forward to hearing all you have to offer! And thanks for talking to me about that mystery canister that was in the Mirage I bought!

"PSA Warning"
For anyone that owns something newer than 25 years old or is anything other than a 260 based era engine .. 400*f will quickly put 25 years of dry rot on your rubber coated reed cages . If you have already done this ... your in luck , Chris Carson makes an over size reed for cages with the rubber removed and the cage lapped in.
375 - 400* is perfect for those who wish to coat their own pistons.
If you can generate fifty more degree's , you can drop the sleeve's out of the block .. steel of course .. them other ones are like CH3NO2 racin ... a fella's got to hate money ..

...when rebuilding the old inline sixes, don't forget to install new little plastic bleed restrictor plugs in the bottom corners of the intake ports. it will idle better. they pop out whenever the powerhead gets steamed or too hot from questionable water pressure/volume. they are only in the bottom five, of the six intake ports...

I've got a hack.
The 8 spline on a v6 Merc drive shaft can be held/torqued with a regular 12 spline socket with either 2 or 4 pinion bearing needle rollers in the shaft spline.
I can't recall offhand what size socket to use but one does fit.
