Its an inboard race event from way back and they want to keep it that way. Put a current champ boat out there with an APEX on it and see what happens against them. When I inquired about running my LCB, I was told it was a full tunnel and didn't fit in the box "not sure what they call the center hanging down but I told them it was 8" above the keel and that my prop shaft would stay well below it. Answer after sending pictures was "doesn't qualify".

You should probably look at the history of overall winners. All outboards until the Nor-whatever showed up. That boat looks like it belongs going out the inlet at 6:00 am , rather than in a narrow river race. I reckon since it's a V-hull .. and a race sponsor they receive (how they say) .. certain provisions ..

It's true that they want to keep the Elvis era flat bottom's running .. some of them seem to still have the tomato truck cam in them from the junk .. err .. scrap yard. They know they don't stand a chance of winning the overall , but maybe they are competitive in their perspective class .. or they go to have a good time. I wouldn't go as far as too say .. the race is geared towards them.

Your LCB had class killer written all over it .. the little pod must have not done much to make them think it wasn't a 21 Skater or Extreem .. on steroids.
Your bass boat would be a better candidate.
Gotz a carb 2.4 to hang off of it ... ???

As far as a state of the art tunnel and a porkchop .. read the rule book.
But on a more common sense level , there is a 110 mph cap .
    I think it's like Bonneville , they race for a trophy .
It's an endurance race that I doubt it would continue to exist if the Havasu gazette had part of a splintered F-1/porkchop sticking half out the back of a 1960's flat bottom , as front page news .

I said to the Duffster a million times .. please go out and show them your the fastest .. then just putt around till the last couple laps .. and then go to the front like the cup boys do .
I reckon he just ain't into cruize- control ..

A minute deep , he's already hossin the gas at the 5 wide coming the other way , tryin to get to the first turn ..

    I run a 39 gal tank.
This guy, with the big Yamaha ran pretty good for a few years with a 20" mid and said he was able to attack the corners.
Cuda looks like you've got plenty of high RPM runners to have some fun with a 15" mid.
Were just running a little fishing motor with the ports scratched on a little to resemble a PM with a stock PM ECU to try and keep it under 6800 for 4 hours.
Anyone that makes the trip are always welcome at are place on the lower Colorado River, about 45 min from the race.

All my LUs are 15" That's not a high RPM race, yeah drag racing we turn them 10,000 and up but It's only for a few seconds not HOURS, only way I'm going is for a winter stay with the MH there are a LOT of places I would like to visit within a few hours drive, If I bring my boat then I have to buy a used car then sell It at the end of my stay
It would be a dream come true, with the arthritis In my neck I would need help driving, that's REAL punishment for a nearly dead 67 year old

I remember the build on that boat, they changed the pad to make it flat, same thing I did, but I scalloped the side sponson's

because I was using them for drag racing and I remember the way the boat would pitch from side to side going over wakes, It would be interesting to see how It would handle all those inboard wakes, I would like to see a outboard only race of that type, or one of those good old long distance up the Mississippi river type races.

Sounds like a great plan. Lots of snow birds in Az with great places to camp and stay Oct-April.
This Stoker ran a 260 with probably a 28p around 7400ish and lived. The really sloppy water is probably the first 7 laps, the attrition kicks in pretty fast.
Just got to drive the water conditions and try to save your rig for the long haul. Let a younger stud drive the first leg and you can run the second or third leg and take the checkered at
67 years young. Winning would be awesome, finishing one is pretty darn close.

I remember when it was happening in the old days (70’s n 80’s) and PB magazine covered it.

There were some full zoot IO, small ET style boats there!
Probably 130+ on straights but all were gone by hr #3 and the OBs took over.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Instigator said he'll drive first since he's so much younger

Never said anything about winning, finishing would be quite a accomplishment, looks like you have to loc-tight EVERYTHING.

After struggling the last couple races with cooling issues (cold seizing) we think we have that figured out.
Our hull also struggled to carry the bow and ran very wet. Our hull is a 20' Baker Rampage and it is a 850lb ski lay up.
It is built well and can withstand the beating the Enduro hands out. The Rampage demands to much positive trim and its still not enough and possibly dangerous.
I wanted to flip it over and add material to the top of the tunnels to create more squish or compress more air.
Instead we are adding to the bow to grab or trap more air. I made these extensions which we will be temporally attaching so we can cut and adjust as needed.
Will also be adding a 5" setback to replace the 3" on the hull. Jerry Baker built about 7" setbacks into his hull designs.
We'll be testing in the near future to try and find a safe balance between setup and props.
These hulls need lifting props when your carrying 250+lbs of fuel and 250lb driver.

kudos on trying something outside the box to get the boat setup properly but... why not find a hull more suited to those conditions and make the entire project safer in doing so?

Keith, have you guys considered tunnel extensions like the Stokers have? At one point we had even tried trim tabs where the tunnel tabs went, so you could make changes to tabs on the fly.
