Good luck! Hoping the outboard heavy hitters make it out there again this year. I'm working on a v-bottom build for 2022, powerplant being the biggest question at this point.

Thanks Mr Fun. Surfrat tv usually carries the race online. I think we figured our cooling issues that's plagued us over the last couple years. If you ever decided to make the race you and anyone are welcome to stay at our place.

89 20' Baker Rampage ski layup 850lbs. I race with Johnny Soares and he runs a white one. His hull is either #1 or 2 out of the mold, race layup and probably 550lbs. Johnny's bother and Ron Hill came up with the bottom design and Jerry Baker designed the top. Probably only made 20 something before Jerry past in 91

Thanks for the reply. I love the lines of the boat. I kind of recognize the transom area from the Baker regular tunnel bottoms.

I love that a true boat race, particularly a marathon, is still taking place in the US.

My hat is off to those continuing to keep it alive and am jealous of you competing.
Id love to do a stint!
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

How many gal tank do you use?

The most popular class racing today in Offshore is the Super Stock class that uses 300XS motors on 15inch mids, I don't understand why they force you to use 20mids with such a high center of gravity making tight corners, safety first I don't get It, If you can secure me a spot In that county park I'll be there next year, I would love to use my Optimax on a 15inch because I would like to spend next winter on the river and use the Optimax because of fuel economy for my stay, I have 2 15in 2.5 mids 260, 280 300 powerheads but I would rather not have to change everything just for that race and be forced use It all winter, but I'll do what I have to do, those 2.5s are gas hogs. Using a Optimax on a 20in mid is DANGERIOUS on a small light weight boat taking corners at race speeds.

    Jim,

They implement rules to keep the inboards "the fast guys of the day". They make them run the case 1 1/2 below the pad and several other rules that slow the outboards down. I have never been out to witness the race in person but its on my bucket list. I might try to pull it off this year right before we head to Key West for the race week.

20" midsections are not required, they allow 15" as well. (exception being "green" and 4-stroke engines)

Centerline is only required to be 1/2" below lowest point of the pad.

I probably don't need to reiterate my position on boats and four strokes ..

And it's been since 2007 when i won the Citrus nationals .. and hung up my HANS device. but I do remember a good racer will look at the rule book and figure out how to win within the confines of that book .. It's been my experience that the ones who whine .. are more along the line's of a rail bird than racer ...

Just an observation , but the inboard boat's have the entire prop under water. Ask any of them what they would give to have 1/3 of the wheel above water ..

No need to worry about the turns .. it's two dragstrips with a U-turn at each end. Pretty narrow in spots as well. What would be dangerous is if a boat with little skeg in the water coming the other way at 110 MPH .. bounced over into on coming traffic because he couldn't steer. (you can make a small boat with a 300 on it go 110 mph ... can't you .. ??? )

If they took the bridle off , I know Duff would bring enough to go 150 mph . Put a 15" mid on an outboard , jack it up , gonna go 150 , are ya ...
Probably aught to be happy with what ya got ..

To my untrained eye .. it look's like a long race thru the slop that is won or lost thru attrition rather than all out speed. Well , until that Nordik - Nortech , what ever it is came along with a deep water plow. Runs over anything at 100+ . Hard to go around that with a flighty tater chip ..

    Mr. Fun ,
Duff is back to work on the original Oh Mona hull that his dad raced at Miami Marine stadium ..

We built this "period correct" tank for it a week or 10 ago ..

    New team colors ...
