    2008 Evinrude Etec 225 HO

I purchased the captioned motor from a friend who used it on his bass boat in fresh water only. It had a new power head installed in 2010 and since then two injectors. It has around 300 hours. My question is to try and understand how to make this motor live. I see some people with 1300 hours on there Etec but not sure what service I should look at doing to stay on top of it. I’m going to run it on my Triton tr21. Looking for advice??

    Yep

He has no time for the drama on here anymore but is one of the best w/the e-tecs.

He is my e-tec guy and like many of us, started w/junk and figure how to make it work.

    Big things for them is:

    good/fresh gas

    good oil

    No water in gas

    fresh plugs

    and propped correctly
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

If you have ethanol free fuel in your area run it as it burns a bit cooler. Run it on XD100 but setting for tcw3 as the 08 should still have that ability unless EMM was also changed with powerhead in 2010. IMO prop it to run 5800 or a bit more when light so it stays well above 5500 with fishing load.

Thanks for that info. The emm was changed by the owner a couple years ago as it went out. Not sure how to make the change for tcw3. Not sure what oil he was running. I know it’s Evinrude and is blue. He said synthetic. Tcw3 setting allows it to premix more oil to fuel even though using better oil. Is that the premise? Should I have the injectors cleaned. Will these motors hold up?

Sounds like the E-tec never came out with the alcohol sensor in the fuel system so it gets leaner with more alcohol?

Blue Evinrude oil is XD50 IMO next time tank is low switch over to 100. Since running 50 now it is one TCW3 setting or does not offer each, when they had the ability to switch you needed to hook up to laptop. The 100 (full syn not partial) setting would then use less oil. If engine has sat for an extended period you could have them cleaned but if it has not sat, filters replaced and has had good fuel run thru it they should be ok but not knowing its full history hard for me to say. Also on these engines the oil is not mixed with the fuel it puts the oil where it is needed, since fuel comes in at the cylinder head if the oil was in fuel bearings etc would not get oil like on a conventional 2 stroke.

Powerabout while they can run on up to 10 percent I like to keep better fuel in them and you are correct no sensor for this.
