Fastbass Marine TV - 300R No Cowl Test

Here is a video and test we did last year with the Mercury 300R with and without a cowl.

Background on this test. We had been fielding calls about the R picking up huge speed increases with no cowl so we thought we would put it to the test. This test was repeated several times and all back to back. The results stayed consistent for us on this boat. One thing that has really impressed me with the R motor is its consistency vs. the 300XS it replaced. Traditionally the XS had its best passes first and as the motor heated up it fell off. It would remain consistent after it fell off, but when out doing hard acceleration passes with it my first one or two were always better. The R on the other hand just stays solid. I can be out testing with it and have 5-6 identical passes when I pull the data on a computer. Really impressive.

If you have seen our other video's you will notice I'm always playing around with how to display what speed and acceleration mean in the real world. It's great to show the data, but what does that mean to the guy doing a shot gun launch on tournament day. I'm playing with some new stuff in this video to demonstrate side by side testing and how one boat pulls away. I want to be able to show what faster acceleration times mean vs. just saying its faster to a given speed or distance.

Shows that some small upgrades can make a difference! Are there any baffles to alter or remove to give it better flow?

They make air intakes for the cowls but can't be as good as no cowl
