    Raise motor or different prop??

    Cuurent rig is a 2006 KW 176cc with a 115 optimax. Prop is a black diamond 13.25 x 17P aluminum. Motor is at 3rd hole from top. WOT = 5320RPM at 38MPH. Hole shot has alot of bow lift until gets on plane. Will raising the motor up 1 more hole reduce bow lift and possibly increase RPM's? the max WOT rating is 5750 RPM and I'd like to get closer to that.

    Any suggestions on a prop if that is the answer?

    as far as I’m concerned aluminum props are for fishing motors you want to bash into shallow stumpy water and nothing else. If you can keep your prop from smashing into things then stainless is the only way to go

    I get it. But kind of expensive for me. Especially since I am trying to figure out what to do. I heard good things about the Mercury spitfire 4 blade in aluminum but have no real experience with a 4 blade. Looking for some advice based on my situation with squatting at lower RPM's.

    Raising the motor up should level off the hole shot. Be careful with the water pick ups and in my experience lousy props don’t like raised envelopes height, at all. The prop is what grips and holds the boat up. Without a good one, no matter what you try is going to have a lot of compromise. If the prop doesn’t hold weight well and you raise the motor it will likely slip more and you will lose top end. As a general rule I like for engine height is when cruising if the boats attitude remains flat going over waves it’s a good height. If it raises the bow high or doesn’t like to stay on plane at lower speeds the engines too low. If the prop slips and loses bite easy especially in turns the engine ( and trim ) are too high. It takes some effort to find the sweet spot. Which you will have to do all over again once you get a good prop. Three hundred bucks buys a nice stainless prop. A few tanks of gas. Well worth the price in fuel savings alone if you drive the boat much. Good luck

    Thanks Lakefever. What brand prop are you referring to for $300? That's about half of what I thought I would spend. Took the boat out and realized the anti-ventilation plate is submerged when on plane and the steering is harder to turn than it should be. Tilting the motor up creates porpoising. Would you raise the motor and see what happens or just put a new SS prop on? OR both?

    Sounds like both. Used props in good shape are often found for around three bills. I don’t know anything about your hull so I can’t suggest which one to look for.

    Hull is a center console with a 15 degree deadrise at transom. Sharper entry at bow. Typically run around 27MPH. Above that in a chop will start to pound pretty good. Was looking on line and saw Turning Point SS prop for around $300. this is a 4 blade 13.25 x 15P. Not sure if I should drop down the pitch to improve RPM's to get closer to WOT top end or stay with 17P assuming raising the motor will get me more RPM's.

    Solas scorpion props are great for the price.. Stainless steel prop for less than $300+- and probably find used even cheaper ..one thing is they are stiff and well.. a 24 runs like a 25
