customs
Our towboats are on the same canal as several of these type boats.. They do have some nice toys.. But they do have problems like the rest of us.. I'v had to salvage one after its motor mounts broke and one of the motors fell in the water while out on patrol.. Only held on buy the steering.. Wish I had some pics of it.. And the motor was a 280 Merc...

They did that because the hulls only rated for 230 HP.

They've got a big storage yard a 1/4 mile up US-1 from our neighborhood. Got at least one 4 motor job and several with 2 or 3. Different size hulls. Keep some confiscated stuff there and also seen some foreign police boats being towed in and out. Big fences with razor wire, big lights and cameras. Big warning signs. Watch 'em go by to launch at Vilano bridge.

If I was working off shore, I would have to have at least that many Mercs before I would be certain I would make it back to port......LOL
I've seen 'em like that being trailered down I-10.

seems to me
like a big diesel I/O might be a little more efficient in the long run.................................ahhhhhhh, what the hell, it's only OUR $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. It probably comes out to $20,000 per floater we stop coming in. Probably not a bad maintenance contract though.

i'm with ya Gordie,
a diesel 42 fountian, 2 420 yanmars and arneson drives ran 87 at the miami show. don't think they've got an outdrive to last very well w/tons of torque. slow speed manuverability a prob w/ arnesons probably. sure would be a fun job. fun out.

I guess they get a discount for buying their outboards in bulk. Two BIG Indoor/Outdoor drives would be best for that kind of weight, but just like everything the gov does somewhere down the line common sense is not a factor.
2 to go out 2 come back That's funny

i think they get a 225 opti for around 7k,,,
maby a bit less. same thing they gouge us 12 or so for. so 28 for 4, vs 18 or 20 for a 420 diesel x2 is 36 to 40. hmm, their doin us a favor, but wait, they only use them a few seasons, then get new ones, but a diesel would last 4-5 years of daily use. beats me. i just think it would be a cool job. get all this out of your system 9-5 and then think about your golf game. fun out.
