Cheers, You still dealing with withdrawl cougar. Thanks for your call last summer, I'm getting ready to pull my pretty pussy out of covered storage and go through it inch by inch. Being a marine tech helps along with heated shop. As per our conversation's have you found any other boats than our's. I know you regret selling your's. I might trade for another Cougar if the right deal came along but I cant think of just selling it.
I am going to try some prop options, Any advice. 1987 classic 18ft, 3.0L 1995 merc black max xri 3L 225 hp. slinging a 23p High Five vented and ported, Over reving at 65mph, 8" jack plate,

Here is what worked with mine with stock 2004 225 Optimax on a Bobs Marine jack plate:
Started with 26 pitch 4 blade Trophy Plus with largest vent inserts: Couldn't quite get it to minimum safe WOT RPM, came up about 150 rpm short= Too much prop!
Went to a older 25 pitch 4 blade Trophy (non "Plus") with OEM size vents (this older prop didn't have snap in vents): Made it just over min safe WOT RPM which came out to 74 MPH on smooth/sticky water. Next moves would have been to start backing off the slightly positive set LARGE trim tabs to allow the nose to come up a bit to air it out a bit more. With that last setup I still had a few hundred more rpm's before max WOT RPM number, I have no doubt I would have made it to 80 MPH if I hadn't had to sell it, send me a box of Kleenex tissues if you have a spare.....
Your project sounds very entertaining, have fun with it!
