I have 2 2.4 Bridgeports on my shop floor I have never gotten around to playing with them. Over the years I have heard people tell me the weak point is the bridge between the exhaust port and it generally breaks in time.

Gents the block is ready for cylinder refinishing and I need to know what brand pistons you suggest? I see there are different over bore sizes available pending brand of piston so I need to inform the machine shop what size which means I need to pick a piston first. Was thinking Vertex?

Block is at the machine shop and its looking pretty good so far. I didn't go wild with the porting on anything other than the dump area I hogged that out big time to match the pics of that ProMax block posted earlier. The plate has quite a bit of porosity in the casting though, which is surprising but i'll probably fill those holes up with epoxy before buttoning it back up. The rod slots are hard to take photos of I did my best so you can see how much I opened them up. I did a nice smooth radius and cleaned up the casting flashing which if you look at the pic with the arrows you can compare left is done, right is stock. Happy to bo done with this for now the boat build is back on track tomorrow morning so this will backburner for a few weeks til I get the block back. The machinest is old school no internet buddy of mine whos only doing referrals now and he has done a bunch of these so hes also supplying pistons. They may end up being Wisecos

Can this block be ported to 260 specs? I’m thinking about going deeper into this, adding a 7 petal, bumping the compression and adding a brucato

Sometimes you actually cut through the block and have to do some welding or you can use aluminum plugs and JB Weld works great as well. You also need to match the front half to the back for a smooth blend.

Initially I was concerned about leaning it out with the stock computer which is why my porting is next to none. I bought a promax ecu I was going to try but now I’m thinking I’m fooling myself and if I want to stay efi and mod this thing a Brucato is the only way to go. This opens up more room to get a bit more aggressive and I figure 260’s are common and I see lots of posts about 260 porting and cuts relating to promax blocks so there’s probably a solid fuel curve available if I aim for that and get the acu calibrated for that with a steam wheel I should be safe and make good jam.

with all the block discussion I’m spinning in circles looking for a solid proven program

I think you mentioned you want to run the 40 amp alternator. A friend of mine runs drag motors and 280s he said the specs on the 280 are very close to a drag motor but running different electronics with a 40 amp alternator. Sometimes he runs a 280 with 260 electronics.

Maybe get it as close to 260, 280, or drags specs as possible and get it over with. It sounds like maybe you want to go out and hand out spankings.

Lol @ spankings, well I’m interested in speed it’s the one constant in my life I have always been a speed freak. I’m not really too concerned with other peoples speed though, I learned many years ago it’s really how fast do you want to buy? What I’m keen on is having enough power to run 100 without using an xr6 lower. I have a bobs coned CLE and a JC cone BB case. The JC case is new not yet assembled so I’m planning on running that in clean no weedy waters and the CLE as my goto. I was all set to buy a promax but figure I can build this FF as good or better. Willing to do the work and spend the money I’m just not 100% on the plan yet

The CLE with a low water pick up from the factory will run 100 miles an hour all day long I’ve done it for years on different boats. You won’t worry about anybody else’s speed until one day when you’re doing 100 and somebody passes you up then you’ll start worrying about it. I’ve been there. I personally don’t worry about top end so much I like good acceleration and even after 30 years I’m still tweaking things for better acceleration.

I hear that. I’ve built plenty of cars and trucks ( I enjoy building machines more than driving them I should note that ) anyways I’ve had some mighty fast cars and now I’m happy with an 11.2 six speed that I can drive anywhere all the rest are gone. The 100 mph in a stream thing is just a goal I’ve wanted to reach for some time now. When I’m out cruising which will be 95% of the time I’m sure I’ll be running a 24 or so pitch ripper prop. I’ve been hoarding props since I bought my first stream and I have plenty to play with.

just gotta get this motor sorted out lol

With 187 gears and 24 pitch prop you probably need to spin close to 9000 RPM to hit 100 mph. I remember spinning a 24 lightning ET at about 9500 and I hit 105 mph. The biggest prop I own is a 24, most of the time I cruise around waiting for an unsuspecting victim. Almost always it’s a big block flat bottom or jet boat. If they look like they can run I give them a shot of N20.

Question. Is the promax rod slot same or close to 260 in stock form?
