Awesome thanks Josh! I don’t suppose you have a part number for those gaskets or know where to source them? Are you talking about the European racing XR2 or the 80’s fishin mota XR2? I have one of those sitting here if so maybe it wood be easier to use the plate off that?

80's fishing motor. It is possible to use that plate with a 2.5, the EE block I'm building now was on one, I never saw it run but they had the side hole plugged where the pisser hose went on the 2.0. I'm not sure that's a good idea, they did some other sketchy stuff to the cooling system too so...

All good thanks again I’ll grind this one np at all. This is getting fun! Although I’m thinking about reducing my rpm goals down to the 7000 range. I don’t really care about what the rpm is so much I have some sweet 28p props that I was looking to spin up high enough to get me to 100 eventually. I can always add a fresh prop with more pitch if I have the grunt to push em which it looks like I may have with these mods.

I am concerned about getting the fuel curve tuned for all this though

I’d be careful copying a lot of exhaust chests I’ve seen on this board. Most people go way too far. Find some pictures of stock 280 and Drag chests. Mercury’s engineers aren’t dumb. There’s a reason the Drag chest isn’t hogged out

Sage advice I do side on the less is more concept especially because I’m going to run the stock ecu to begin with. Thinking to open the dump and plate, radius the rod slots a bit, clean up the exhaust chest a bit, add stuffers and reeds and that’s the plan so far. I haven’t put the grinder to anything yet
