What shop vac filter? Keep plugging mine

Fiberglass dust is a pain to control and my shop vac filter plugs fast vacuuming this dust up. Anyone have a filter solution that last more than 20mins or so without needing a clean? I have a couple but the goto is a large Home Depot rigid

I use a Karcher with the big pleated filter in it, it keeps running and working even when the filter looks blocked.

Mine keeps running too but loses at least 50% of its power within 20 mins of vacuuming up glass dust.

Put a gallon of water in the bottom of the vac.

I've never heard the water trick, interesting idea.

I fought the same issue several years ago with a 2-stage filtration Fein unit - cleaning it multiple times a day got old quick.
I ended up buying a 2-stage Makita with an automatic reverse-pulse system that "burps" the secondary filters to shake them off (and they are pretty big which helps too). Problem solved - it has been bulletproof. There's a number of models out there now with filter-cleaning systems.

Run a bag. I started doing that shortly into my build. Much easier to clean when it fills up and keeps more power longer. With the bag you just run a thin cover over the motor inlet.

EDIT: I found for these to work best you should duct tape the inlet to the side of the vacuum from the inside. That way the bag can't pull off the inlet port-thing-a-ma-bob. A strip on either side of that cardboard did the trick for me.

the cyclone will separate 99% of the dust to a 5 gallon bucket. i go thru 10 - 5 gallon buckets to one paper filter or better. i had to do this to keep my cnc router working fo more than 5 minutes.

I bought some bags and a fine particle filter I’ll give em a crack and see. The dust collector as above is the best looking solution just not as portable. If the bags don’t cut the mustard I’ll do the collection bucket. Thanks all

I have a rigid 6 gallon w/d vac. I got a bag from a fesstool vacuum and rigged it to fit my rigid. Vac stays clean for the most part, empty when necessary.

Yea your best bet are the bags, arent cheap but you can vacuum till the bag is full w/o having to screw with the filter. Once they started making the bags ive never run any of of my shop vacs w/o a bag.. well unless its water obviously..

I just wish I knew about them sooner. Pretty much ruined my newish shopvac in the build process. Going to try and see if I can put a new motor in it cheaper than buying a new one.
