    chrysler 75 hp outboard info

    Hi,

I am looking for any info you could give me on a chrysler 75 hp outboard engine from the late 70s to early 80s. I cant find very much info about these units at all anywhere online. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Are these reliable units, junk, ect. Thanks in advanced.

A little background info, this outboard is on a baja 16ss that has been in a barn shirk wrapped for around 20 years.

I go with any modern TCW3 oil and I run at 40:1 ratio just to be safe.

Rebuild the transom and look after the motor: if it has the 5/16" waisted head bolts - they tend to pull the threads out of the block. The Chrysler blocks do have enough "meat" for heli-coiling these threads, the post `95 Force (by then Mercury) blocks not so!
Get somebody with the know-how to rebuild and reseal the lower unit/waterpump. Bearings and seals are cheap for the older lus, gears not.
Run TCW3 oil at 32:1 and it will last forever (in the 60s we raced the 4-cylinders at 23:1, never had piston or bore problems, did however use special Reintz (now Victor-Reintz) head gaskets).
    Rgds,
    Wolfgang (South Africa)
