Share your thoughts on being a Dad or about your Dad for Father’s Day.

There were (and many of you will identity with too) many male role-models in my life as a youth. I still had one grandfather still alive, several uncles, and my blessed dad.

I interacted with my buddies dads, and we attended school were there was also male teachers and sport coaches. JFK the president went sailing and played touch-football with his nephews and brothers. Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, The Osmond family, and the movie Sound Of Music, entertained us with songs and family relationships.

Hollywood portrayed the gentle soul of Jed Clampett (Beverly Hillbilies) to the understanding patriarch Ward Beaver with his sons on Leave It To Beaver. Fathers in ages past and in the future were portrayed in a positive light. They were illustrated in animation, by a Fred Flintstone in the dinosaur neighborhood, and George Jetson with his futuristic family and flying car.

Closer to home, my late dad was mentor and friend. I have many fond memories of shared experiences. Doing activities he enjoyed and he sharing them with me. Thanks Dad.

Well my Dad liked fishing on the Lake, and fishing in the canals. One day he acquires a fly fishing rod & reel. In Florida that is not common fly fishing, but I speculate my late-Dad wanted the new challenge in catching bass with a fly rod.

Dad started fly casting the lure like he had done it before. After showing me the technique, (of casting and then letting out more line and then cast again at a greater distance … repeating the process until you reach the desired distance and spot location) I started fly fishing too.

Fly Fishing at the canals was a fresh breath of air, but we eventually went back to the old way of fishing. Casting rod (open face to be exact) and reel with artificial lures to catch bass, and put the filets in the freezer, if we do not eat them that evening.

Good memories — Happy Father’s Day to my late Dad.

My dad and his buddies built boats in a workshop behind the house. As a kid I saw men working and having fun while they accomplished something. They helped each other to build boats in unison. Each boat different and custom to the owner. The boats were wood of several types. I remember the soaking trays and the homemade steamer for the wood planks allowing them to be bent along the frames. I learned a lot from watching, helping and listening. Followed the trend and built boats from modern materials and loved the job, found that just like my dad and his buds, I would end up with a shop full of buds eager to help and have fun on projects. Passed this down to my son and his buds. They get together and work on each others boats in my barn/shop. Makes me think back to my dad and his buds doing the same thing just with different materials. My son and I made a "new" flats skiff out of a 1967 Larson Lapliner. Same thing, friends coming over to help glass or sand, whatever. Not completely finished, but has given a lot of fun and time together for us both. So, the tradition lives on. I have no doubt that my grandson will build stuff too. It's in our blood...

To say I’m going to miss him one day would be an understatement, not just my dad , my best friend …… (story) I was 15 or 16 and decided I wasn’t going to go to school anymore so my mom says your going to live with your dad I said awesome I get to live with dad in the keys!!! I figured I’d be getting to go fishing everyday and hangin in the keys what could be better ? I get there and he says we start work at 6 am , I said “WHAT” , he says ya what u think ur gonna do sit on ur ass all day at my house in the a/c while I’m working, so now I’m thinking we’ll that’s not too bad at least I can make some money, he tells me I get 10 dollars a day and I’m like wtf I need more than that , he says what do u know how to do ? I said nothing , he says we’ll u ain’t worth a **** yet then are you and so he tells me that’s fine I’ll pay u what ever you want BUT by the time ur done paying me rent it’s gonna equal out to 10 dollars a day, so I settled on the 10 bucks a day ……… about 20 yrs later he came and helped me on a job and I sent him a check for 10 bucks , he called said wtf is this where’s the rest ,I said isn’t that what we pay each other lol …..my love of everything outdoors is because of him

First year/first time Dad, Jon Rahm wins his first Major golf tournament the US Open on Father's Day.

Good for him, and he will always remember and connect the win with his son's age.
