1994 Evinrude 225 VRO/FUEL PUMP PROBLEM
Hi,
I have just bought a 1994 Evinrude 225 that has been sitting for a while.
Previously I have only experience with Merc and does not know the VRO pump and how it works...
Everythig is hooked up inkl. the oil tank and wire connections.
The engine does not start (I have flushed the carbs) but it looks like no fuel are going through to the cylinders.
It has spark on all plugs (but not the best spark i have seen...).
Do you need a electric fuel pump to prime the VRO?
I hooked up a 5psi pump today for testing but this made the carbs overflow and also some leakage from the VRO pump so probably not the best thing to do
Any suggestions or ideas are highly appreciated
Thanks,

If the carbs are overflowing with 5 pis of pressure, you need to rebuild them with new needles and seats. As for cranking and spark, you need a good, strong battery 800CCA or better to get at least 300 rpm in cranking to get good spark. If the VRO pump is leaking, time to rebuild it, replace it or eliminate it and either installing the fuel pump setup from a commercial version of the engine or going with and external electric pump and pre-mixing the fuel.

Thanks for the information @flabum1017
I will go through it today checking the VRO pump and replace all fuel and vacuum lines and also get a new battery to test.
Regarding fuel pressure from an external fuel/lift pump, I have read that the VRO and or carbs only can handle 3-4 psi without overflowing the carbs but is this not right?

Got it started yesterday and it runs quite nice
The spline on the flywheel was gone so the ignition was way off.Lars P Helminsen
