I refer back to post #5. Trust me a certified letter return receipt sends a powerful message especially when there is documentation (picture) a subtle mention of legal action etc. problem is it’s not the cats fault. It’s the owners. No different than Dogs. There are no bad dogs only bad owners. A certified letter establishes a legal foundation. Any other actions don’t. Trapping the cat returning it to the owner unharmed also sends a powerful message!! I mean it’s already been established when he tries to talk to his neighbor nothing gets settled.

The trap is the best idea, even shooting an animal with an airsoft gun can open up legal crap for you if they start claiming you "permanently hurt or traumatized " fluffy the family pet....the courts and lawyers are ridiculous these days. Definitely don't go the ethylene glycol route either....you'll have all sorts of dead crap from raccoons to birds littered around the property

Do people actually accept certified mail?

Some of you guys are brutal. It's a cat! With the way some of you sound I'm starting to think his neighbor is Joe Exotic.
    ANTI40It's just an idea.

Get a trail camera and put it in your boat, when you have plenty of evidence (pictures of the neighbors cat) send him the bill to clean your carpet.

Does this cat live in the neighbor’s house? Inside outside type pet? If so I guarantee the inside of the neighbors house smells just like your carpet and the guys sense of smell must be shot. Unneutered male cats piss(spray) on everything.

Its one of my most hated smells.. and i have no idea what his house smells like.. it looks like a damn landfill over there. LITERALLY a landfill. And I want no part of that mess, its bad enough he is a little over 100 yards from me..

I have come to understand this..............people get used to smells and such. That other guy is used to living the way he does and he doesnt care. He prolly still smells the pee, and he's used to it. We wouldnt accept it ever. But to him? Smells like home.

I have a family member who had to put his cat down after 20 years, and his house still smells like cat pee a little. It dont bother him. I smelled it immediately when I went into his house. And I love cats.......hate their pee smell.

Looks like the AI is citric acid. Vinegar is acetic acid. Both will neutralize urine which is ammonia, a base. If you wanted some smell, put a few drops of dish soap in it.

But I'm not going to tell you how to spend your money....

    Yea, I am cheap.

In a case of certified mail. If the recipient refuses to sign for it. Its still a record that a attempt was made by the sender. In that case it gets returned to the sender. The key is Dont open it!! Leave it sealed. Its still admissible in court as evidence because the Post office Had to Inform the recipient of certified mail. The Post office does not disclose whom the sender was until after its signed for.

How about a little liquid coyote/ fox urine that trappers use on the property line?

I hear coyotes and foxes also love cats (for meals)

Ok. Here's the cure. Get some Cayenne Pepper and sprinkle it in your splash well. They won't like it on their paws and they certainly won't like it in their mouth when they try licking it off. I've also heard of people using caustic like easy off oven cleaner.
