2"-4" Setback brackets

I have a buddy that has a pontoon with a 20" 40hp motor mounted on the transom that is still too high & cavitates at full throttle. Looking for a couple brackets that could possibly be mounted reversed (if there is a built-in height differences in them) so the motor can be dropped a few inches without a ton of setback......does this sound like a horrible idea? Even if they are strait & move the motor back a few inches, using the transom angle, it may help. This is a 20mph boat that I think could run way better with a few people in the front of the boat if the motor was deeper in the water. Adding a 25" mid would be more work than its worth, even if one could be found for this motor.

can you just get two short pieces of aluminum channel and make your own? I used to have a pontoon that did the same thing. had a 40 Evinrude on it. would get hot at wot because sucking air at top holes in lower unit.

I have a set of black adjustable setback brackets (4") that I bought on here about a year ago for $300...I would sell them for the same if thats the route he goes. They are each 2 ieces that look like "L"s that are bolted together, so you can adjust them about 1" at a time by bolting through different holes. They are made for like 300 hp...so def. overkill for what he needs.

That's an idea I will run past him. If he could make sure its reliable for him to take his family out on the river, he may do that. We could look for some right angle aluminum & make them if it is available in our area. If he wasn't on a budget (just poured all his $ into a motor and finishing the boat) he would have a new short setback jackplate or a 25" mid. Always down to the last dollar lol!

Use galvanized steel angle. Its a pontoon. the added weight will help his cause and its inexpensive
