What type of plate, some type of adaptor obviously. is it something I can fabricate or buy? Any idea where I can get a picture of what I need?

The only lowers I know will bolt up to a g1 are the m1,m2 l1,l2,a g2 will not interchange with a g1, I have not seen a plate that will run alooper case, they probably make something since you can buy a plate that will run a sportmaster on one, I'll see what I can find out

OMC v4/v6/v8 are all the same bolt pattern, the drive shaft is shorter on 1991 and earlier looper cases by about 3/8 inch. I don't think he asked anything about a G2.. that's a whole different animal

So you have to change shift shaft and drive shaft and it will bolt up?

Will, it depends on year?92 and newer 90 degree looper will bolt right up with no changes but it wont live very well on a heavy boat. 60 degree engine would need drive and shift shaft changes.

Thank you, racer I did not know the newer ones would work, I figured with all the torque those things produce it would kill most of the older lowers

Thanks Racer for confirming the same good info I got from Instigator on this site.
I realize the gearcase isn't as strong but the boat is a light 22' tunnel.

    Say Racer,
I did find a nice '99 gear case which was shipped with the upper driveshaft separately. Will the clip that holds it in, still be in place since it doesn't appear to have ever been apart? Would it hurt to run it without the clip? I didn't know the drive shaft could be removed once snapped in place.

Sometimes the clip will still hold but most times not. IMO turn case over and make sure no pieces are still in shaft and then reinstall I have run them without the clip. On the V4 unit you need the retainers.

I will pull the upper bearing to be able to inspect it down inside and check for pieces.
I now suspect this gearcase is from a stern drive. Is there any reason it wouldn't still work? I think it will have the same gear ratio. I can check that too if need be but hoping you can tell me
Thanks for your time and sharing your knowledge.

I always took the bearing plate off and the shaft pulled right out, but obviously that could end up scrambling the roller bearings..
