Something I forgot to ask was can I paint on the canvas without sealing it? What happens if I dont seal it before paint?

This is the bottom now. Going to let dry for a couple days before we flip to do the top. Can I paint on the canvas or do I need to seal it?

Fresh water ROCKs......Salt water sand.

What paint are you using? My first thought would be seal it just so it doesn't leech out on the edges and you get an even finish.. has it been coated with anything before too?

I'm in the middle of a bunch of varnishing but nothing is nice or fun..just a bunch of maple and poplar boards

It has something that makes the canvas get tight after you staple it down and it like a gel I think other then that, thats it.

Fresh water ROCKs......Salt water sand.

Oh new canvas..I should of asked.. if it's to make it tight no don't seal it...I can't remember what it's called but I'm sure someone will and tell you for sure...it doesn't say anything in directions on can?
The stuff I've used to shrink it tight you don't seal otherwise it doesn't tighten up..

Not really new, +30 years old been stored and got dust and been with cats. Should I wash it before I paint it?

Ok..I keep trying to make the pics bigger but they just get blurry on my phone...it's clear or pigmented? 30+ years old I would say I'd clean it up enough that there's nothing going to keep the paint from adhering or show thru etc at least.

To be honest I have no idea, it has a slight tint on brown to it (from all the dust). When the boat was right side up you can see every thing in the bow just like it wasn't there if that helps. I can ask my dad what it is if you want.

I Would definitely find out what it is. you to don't want to do all that work and and not have it adhere or look as nice as the rest or worse...
