Splashwell deletes on Sleekcraft SSTs
So my transom is bad, and I've heard of people deleting the splashwells on boats instead of seperating the cap/hull. I can't see how this would look good and I'm not finding any photos. Does anyone have any images or reference photos of this anywhere?

Really looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I have a line on a Sleek Aristocrat that needs a full restore and it has the same transom issue and I also don't like the idea of splitting it since it is bonded together.

I am confident I can glue (glass) it back on decently, but we will see.

I honestly don't see why people split the caps off hulls to do transoms. Like, why!?!?!? There is ZERO need to do that in most hulls. Carefully cut out the inner or outer glass, scrape out the plywood, but new in, glass ti back up. I've seen it maybe 50 times and never a problem.
Splitting the halves apart is only necessary if you are doing other stuff; maybe re-gelling the whole thing, building bracing under the transom etc. Just a transom or stringer job can be done without splitting.
As far as capping the splashwell, just build some stringers and cap it. Best to leave the old splashwell in place underneath for strength.
heres a thread where they cut out the old splashwell, I would always rather not do that. https://www.screamandfly.com/showthr...the-splashwell

It depends how the splashwell is constructed; mine dipped down and had a drain through the transom, and the back edge of the splashwell was bonded to the front face of hte transom; there was no way to replace it from inside the boat.

Okay, wasn't sure. Post pics of your sleek!
To put it back in, I think I'm going to mount some paint sticks on the top surface, drop it into place, then glass from the bottom. Or maybe paint sticks on both sides and do sections of glass, then remove the paint sticks and glass the rest?

It would look good and give you the opportunity to remove the metal brackets and fiberglass some wood supports from underneath. It would look way better that how it is now, however if you have an outboard you might need a jack plate to get the powerhead away from it when you tilt it up...And then there's the fact you wont have a splash well so water can flow over the top of the hull...

Can you post a pic of the pad ending UNDER the boat? Unsure what you mean. I think I know what you mean. But I wanna see pics.
