    Friday Fish Fries – all you can eat – my youthful memories.

    Growing up in Florida, the ubiquitous Friday Fish Fry places were numerous. I have fond memories going to restaurants with my cousins and friends eating our fill of fish, and more fish (including hush puppies or French fries). Most of the time the eateries served catfish, a white fish that was not fishy tasting.

    My adulthood in the culture of southern California does not cater to fish fry establishments, as I was custom to in the southern states. However SoCal has no shortage of Mexican and Chinese cuisines, which are tasty too. Regional foods add spice to life.

    What is common in your neighborhood?

    ~~~
    These eating establishments remind me of my youth.
    During Snow Crab season the Asian community has happy feet going out to their favorite restaurants. There is one ocean-side restaurant here locally, and my Korean friends are in there with mallets and aprons pounding open the Snow Crabs legs.
    My observation is it is a lot of work, with little reward. Not unlike cracking open pecan shells and digging out the pecans.
    Down in fla we got frog legs, gator, all kinds of fish and shellfish. But our BBQ is the best anywhere.
    Frog legs have never made me ask for more. But gator tail is palpable.
    BBQ is pretty good in many places throughout the U.S.
    There's a place here, just N of Daytona in a little town called Bunnell with a 400 square foot building serving food you eat outdoors under cover... but with the flies and sweat, etc.
    It's not all you can eat but one $8 sandwich is all most people can eat. Probably a pound or more of layered filets. I'm an expert eater so I get fries and slaw with mine. Last time I asked it's Pollock. Always superb.
    ...lol... when i was younger, i knew a guy that grew up in texas on a chicken farm, or whatever they are called. he said each one of his chicken houses were about a quarter of a mile long, lined with three or four rows of chickens inside. his job every morning was to feed the chickens. he said the only row of chickens he fed, was the top row...
    When I worked offshore it didn't matter what platform you were on, Friday was fry-day. Fried fish, fried shrimp, fried frog legs, fried oysters, and french fries.
    I remember driving through Bunnell. It's not on the beaten path of Florida's popular sites. This might be the eatery you are talking about.
