Going back - 2001 BWB Article from John Tiger

Let me take you back to 2001 Decembers edition of Bass & Walleye Boats....

Finally got around to digging out some magazines and found one of the best articles ever written. This article has stuck with me for over twenty years, and though I've never been over 80, Johns writing is phenomenal in the way he describes the experience of being in a hi-po outboard boat.

A quote to get ya' peter stiff... (and yes, I typed it)

Because I have a strong aviation background, the only sensation that even comes close in comparison for me is the raw speed of a high-performance aircraft during takeoff, landing or maneuvers. Even then, simply traveling in a straight line, high in the sky, gives me one lousy sensation of forward velocity.

In a boat, however, that forward velocity is all there is --- the chatter of the hull as it rises up on the pad, the staccato roar of the two stroke powerplant, the heavy buffeting and pounding of the wind --- these sensations add up to something incredible.

Great Post !!! I've been reading John's articles since 8th grade maby longer. Finally met up with him in Taveres just as humble of a guy with his background as you will ever meet. remember some sideways chatter by the backbenchers ( Mark Levin quote ) in bygone years and belive they wouldn't know which end of a hammer to pickup in relation to his knowledge of the history and evolution of this sport , hope he brings his hotshot little Allison and V4 back in November. Fun Out

I met John Tiger in person for the first time about 10 years ago when he delivered my Allison R-15 that I bought from Gohr. John trailered the boat from the mid west to PA and we met at a gas station off the Interstate. John stood there in the parking lot with me answering questions and sharing his knowledge, without any pressure to get back on the road so he could get home. Years later, I bought John’s Evinrude V-6 and picked it up at his shop in VA Beach. He, not only hung the motor on my GT-20, but once again, spent hours answering my questions and sharing his knowledge. I email John occasionally to ask the odd question and he is never too busy to reply. John is a class act, a gentleman, and has likely forgotten more about this great sport/hobby than most of us will ever know. Thanks to John, for being “one of the good guys.”
