    Check valve

Anyone have a source for these? One way valve that goes up to the top crank bearing. I don't think merc lists it in the parts diagram. It is supposed to have a barb on it...

Can you tap it 10-32 and then install a 10-32 x 1/8" barb?

Into the front half or into that existing check valve? I think the threads in the block are 1/8 npt and I've seen those check valves angled and some are straight. Someone out there has to have one or have bought one before...I hate to bother Jay Smith cause he is always SO helpful I feel bad taking his time. I'll let the people who know nothing take up his time...

I guess I was thinking of tapping that particular check valve and "fixing" it. I have an old 200 Merc that's my "parts motor". If you get in a jam, I'll yank it and mail it to you.

Its for a 260 and I have the same one on my BP and my 2.4 Ovalport, but none of them show it in the parts schematics. I coulda swore I've seen them in the past on fishin motors but I looked at 4 dead I-6s and 5 other fishing v6s I have and they either didn't have that bleed line for the upper bearing or they were pressed in rather than tapped. That ling you posted kinda looks like it but It doesn't have a screen. Maybe it is supposed to?

I think I found it. On most all the engines it is press-in but some of them its threaded. You see both parts listed as #35 in the pictures. It is also in the reed/head pic rather than 'bleed system" or "crank case" ... I would have never thought to look there. If anyone has a threaded one I would gladly buy it for $5 rather than the $20+ from merc. What a crazy price for a brass fitting.

It should have been listed with the case or crank / bearing parts. It's not a bleed line, it moves the oil that pools in the bottom main bearing and delivers it to the top bearing from crankcase pressure. The check valve keeps the line from drainning back when it's not running. A guru (I think you know who) told me to put a tee in line near the top with a cap and each season pop the cap off and squirt a couple of pumps of 2-stroke oil in it it give the top bearing a bit of oil for the first startup after sitting.
