In-line 115 adi merc questions reeds exhaust baffle plate???
So I grabbed a 115 adi from a freind hadn’t run a in a year or two.
Mounted it on my hull (you dont really want to know ) cut down the shaft for a 20 inch from a 25 got it fired up and it was hard starting and just didn’t sound right.
felt like
it was a reed, pulled a carb , sure enough bad reed so I’m kinda committed at this point
so Now I gotta learn inlines, always had V6s 2.5s and 3.0s
so have it down to the bare power head right now about to pull it and split the cases this is not a Speed boat motor.
two things, I have is that it’s definitely in need of a reed change that’s visually confirmed , and on number 2 piston I was getting small water droplets consistently. No other cyl. Yet bore scope of cyl looks
Nice and clean. Reversion? Or something more?
engine is a nice clean freshwater all
It’s life engine.
not looking for performance mods just want to make it a good runner .
main concern is reeds thinking maybe a set of boysen might be good not for performance but in case it ever injests the reeds it maybe won’t wipe out a cylinder.
and want to know if there’s anything I should do w exhaust plate, read about some issues w those ? Totally new to inlines and my v6s always ran like a top so limited experience working on those as well .
thanks in advance for any info.President :

Exhaust plates meaning the divider plate and the cover plate? I got them laying around in a big pile and maybe some NOS ones. I had a habit of condemning more I-6 than I put back together. They made good money in scrap before the aluminum price took a dump. Never did have a problem with leaking exhaust plates, but I always put the old gasket sealer from merc on the gaskets before I bolted them up.
