Warning when selling or buying items - PLEASE READ

This applies to anybody that is selling or looking to buy anything here

If you receive a PM from a person claiming to 'have a friend that has one' or 'knows somebody looking for' an item you're selling, be very skeptical unless it's a well-known member here.

Usually, if you're looking for an item, this sort of scammer will send you a PM, indicating that they 'have a lead on' or they 'have a friend' with what you're looking for, and an email address to contact. Do not conduct business this way.

Please always be prudent and cautious with any online sale. Whenever possible, use any means possible to verify the legitimacy of a potential transaction. As a rule, when in doubt, pass on the item and report any suspicious messages to me.

For the last several years, I manually approve all new registrations on the site. As you may imagine, that is an extremely tedious process, however it also prevents nearly all potential scammers from entering the forums here. I verify IP address locations, as well as the many patterns that automated registration software uses to scour the internet and target very large message boards like this one. However, inevitably, some of these scammers will slip through the process because a few of them are pretty smart about how they present themselves.

Please PM me anytime with any suspicious activity.

Hi Greg, I posted a Chopper propeller want add in the Buy and Sell marketplace. I got a private message from new member Luizmike887 with a referral to Ed's Marine Superstore and a phone number. When I called the number it was not Eds Marine Superstore. I was contacted by text later that night and when I Googled the the number it was a suspected scam that sounded similar. I played the guy a bit, asked for pictures of the Chopper and he sent a Clever picture. When I asked for the serial number twice he would not respond...

"Jeffins" tried to scam me today after replying to a tempest prop wanted ad j posted. Here are screen shots, he tried to get me to pay f&f but I sent it g&s and included the extra fee but he refunded it saying he will only take f&f and blah blah blah, clearly a scammer replying to wanted ads don't fall for it and hopefully that account gets banned.

ThreeLakesJim here, original founder of the Three Lakes (WI) Shootout. I just renewed my S&F membership, but have not been active since selling my STV last summer. I'm an old bastard (77 but feel like 47) now without a race boat! (Wah!) I will be selling a number of props this year as I no longer have anything to use them on. I just wanted to give you a heads-up of my return presence on the site. Hope all is well. The site looks great!
