    First time timing a outboard

I just finished the rebuild. This is my ser. # OT147230

    Attachment 486625
I have all spark plugs out, throttle cable removed. Throttle arm against idle stop and should be set to 0* - 9* ATDC so that can be anywhere between 0* and 9* ATDC right? and at full throttle stop should be at 26* BTDC and not 20* BTDC, because 26 is at cranking speed and not full rpms correct?
I just want to make sure on the timing numbers in the the manual. This is the manual.

And also on the trigger plug has bare wires. Can I cut the wires back and repair the wires some how or do I need to buy a new trigger?

Jay Smith racing sells a dial indicator for establishing top dead center, setting your pointer, and dialing in your marks. Best $75 I ever spent.

23 degrees is safe. 25 is Max for general running. Better have good fresh fuel for 25. Break it in at 23 degrees max.

The right way to repair that is to buy new pins for that connector and cut those wires back to good insulation and recrimp new ends and insert them in to the connector. But I dunno if you have enough slack in the wire. That looks like a weatherpack connector to me. But, I am not a merc guy to say 100%. It may be something else. But a weatherpack can be re-done. But those wires definitely need to be repaired.

If the wires look like that, I would not trust the trigger. Water has a way of "wicking " up into open wires. And of course into the trigger too.
