1996 Johnson 225 Lower unit compatibility?

I am trying to figure out if I can put a lower unit from a 2005 Evinrude 225 DFI (E225fhlsob) on to a 1996 Johnson 225 venom (j225stlede). I figured someone on here knows.

Also when i put a dial indicator on the shaft there is about .003" of movement when turning the shaft. how much movement is acceptable?

Yes it will fit. The 05 unit is a bit larger and a very small ratio change. .003 is ok
