I use to put my underwater camera on a small weighted tripod with the camera pointed almost vertically up. Then sink it to the bottom in 80 feet of water fishing for Lake trout through the ice. It worked well for that. Maybe your gopro on a weighted tripod in some shallow clear water pointed horizontal more or less with a buoy attached and do A couple fly by's. Camera options would be a lot easier. It's not really like your original idea and I don't know where you are running but just thought I'd throw it out there. You may have a lot of light refraction in turbulent water and get poor quality. I just know It's hard to identify a fish in a running river compared to one swimming in calm non flowing water.

The mount will need to be hefty transom mount with very hydrodynamic designed case.
Pencil camera in a oversized housing so you can aim it at an angle but the case remains inline with the direction you are going

That's essentially what my fallback solution will be. The appeal for me is I don't think what I am attempting to do has been done before with such fast boats. I had another idea where the camera mount/craft would be a towable, rather than fixed to the transom. That creates many more problems than it may solve, though.

A big hurdle will be ventilation/ cavitation bubbles, the trailing edge of whatever design will be a poor place for the camera.

Why not something like Vehicles Back Up Camera or Front view Camera? They have to be water Proof and I know the ones on my GMC Truck are no larger than a Quarter. Plus a streamline housing to eliminate drag would be easily fabricated. They are relatively cheap ($80.00). And Im sure there is someone on this site that understands how the Cameras interfaces with the Monitor screen in the vehicle.

For a good clean distortion and bubble free shot, the mounting fixture will have to be very small and hydrodynamic. And the lens in the water not shooting thru some plastic. A lens faired into the hull with the wire going fwd along the keel seems the obvious solution.

Board member river rocket has 3 fastbass marine tv videos on youtube testing the new merc v-8 sportmaster with an underwater camera mounted to the allison skid planer pointing straight at the sportmaster nose. I’m sure he could shed some light on what you are trying to accomplish with all of the video & data log testing experience he has.

That's one of the coolest vids I've ever seen! When he's working the trim/jackplate...
