I am going to buy a Merc 2.4 BP!! (and i need help)

Hello, this will be the last of my topics regarding the mercury 2.4 BP.
Last couple of days i posted multiple threats with questions about the merc.

    The story:
I am planning to buy a rebuild mercury 2.4 BP.
This will be my first high performance outboard so i am trying to gather as much info as possible. The owner is maybe also reading this on the forum Hi JM or KF! (Probably not)

The point is, it is rebuild because it kept holding back and a piston was burned or something. But after the rebuild, the owner sold the outboard and his boat. The rebuild happened a couple years ago and since then the engine was not mounted on a boat. Only run a couple of times on the hose. It isnt really tested at all.

What has been done on the engine?
According to the previous owner this has been done during the rebuild:
NEW: Sleeves, pistons, top end bearings, (not all) big end bearings -> only top and mid bearings.
    Rebuild is 5 years ago.
He says the rebuild cost €3500,-
Injectors are new (but maybe a couple running hours old)

Engine does not have high pressure heads (i dont know if they have HP heads from stock?)

Also, the motor needs a proper break in.

The seller probably wont give any warranty (and i cant really blame him), so its probably all on me if something fails.

    My question:
What do you guys think, if you hear this story. I am pretty familiar with normal mercury 2 stroke outboards, but this is something else if you ask me.
Any in particular to keep an eye on, or to ask the seller

Nah don't listen to these fools! 2.4s make plenty of power.

That motor is super clean. Run a good quality gas and 25/24:1 oil for break in. Follow a proper break in procedure and you will have a good motor. Even though people are crazy over 2.5s and 2.4s have been regarded as trolling motors by some thats just not the case. These things can last super long, much longer than a hopped-up 2.5, between rebuilds. The biggest thing that killed those motors is the bridge melting...pull the heads and see the condition of the bridges. If someone sleeved it hopefully it has a 6 steel sleeves and then pistons that have been slotted for the bridge cooling. If it has those it will be a perfect motor for you!

Also, make sure the pistons have the proper clearance if it was steel sleeved. And depending on whether or not you have the stock 1 piece adapter plate you may or may not want to do some cooling mods.

Main thing Id be worried about is that old analog ECU and TPI unit. Odds of either of them working are not good and then you'll be buying a new aftermarket ECU like a Brucato. Otherwise, its a great motor!

Those are real concerns. You can still get those parts for not too much or just go with a newer ECU (even though thats WAY more expensive than getting a replacement analogue ECU and TPS).
Is there any way you can run the engine or get your hands on a tester to check the EUC before you buy it?

That thing looks sweet! Love the steering setup and the fact it has the skirt with that cowl. You will be askin questions for sure. I was in the same boat as you not to long ago and a EFI BP had me questioning my status as a mechanic...confusing as even when they don't run right, fun and nice sounding when they do.

Carb BPs are cool too. If you have too much EFI troubles you can always go that route. But...that block doesn't have the cylinder bleeders so making carbs run good and not load up could be a task.

They are different hoses, they have different fittings where they go into the pump. No idea why they would be priced that much different though!
