Anyone still doing mercury ECU mods

Seems like mercury has locked down anyone doing software modifications on their outboards.

The three I knew of won’t even discuss it: whipple, usp, simon

Anyone know where one could still get a verado ECU modded?

And/or anyone know the actual details on what these guys got threatened with?

Yea that is what everyones "guess" is but I'm not buying it. You can get an ECU tune for just about anything else. Cars, Trucks, Yamaha outboards, motorcycles, PWCS, etc

Why would the EPA only have a hard on for mercury tunes?

Especially since Hardin, Teague and a bunch of others are still advertising ECU reprogramming for 4-stroke I/O Mercury racing engines.

Simon still advertises that they repair them...do they repair still and not mod or do they not do it at all?

Someone posted on BBC saying it may have had to do with Service Bulletin 19-08, anyone know what that is? I'll look it up on mercnet later if no one knows.

Its not legal to do, but neither is bolting a brucato on a fishin motor...so I have a hard time believing its for legal reasons. But then again, why did everyone seem to stop doing the mercurys at the same time? Did Brunswick patent all the ECUs with their map or something like that? I may know US criminal law but I have very little understanding of intellectual property rights, patents and modifying patented items....

But why worry about people modding **** they don't and won't ever sell again... but not people modding 4-stroke stuff they still sell?

EPA has racing exceptions, like Bass Machines can still import 50hp carby tohatsu's for kneelers
You need to prove the engine cant be used for recreation.

Rumor is there's guys out there still doing the Verado ECM's. However, you won't see it in writing anywhere or advertised on a website.

Lots of Outboard ECU tuning going on in Australia and New Zealand. The guys at JB mechanical in Australia refuse to tune an out of country ECU. Hans at Outboard tune will do my Suzuki for almost 1k Canadian including return shipping. Wish I could find someone who got one done.

all the hacking of ECU's is breach of copyright, always was still is.
The manufacturers are getting nervous now as one ecu controls the whole car so are pushing the law to be enforced.
Boats just got caught up in that but no on water enforcement but the company doing it is an easy target.
Diesel Brothers learnt that along with VW
