    deer

I have lived outside of town for nearly 40 years in the middle of a 120 acre tree farm. We have seen lots of wildlife over the years. Couple days ago the wife gives me a call and says you ain't gonna believe what is standing next to me right now. Of course I had no clue so she tells me there is a deer 5' away. She took pics and shot a short video of this deer following her around. She held her hand out and the deer sniffed then licked her hand. So now she thinks she has a pet deer so goes out and buys a mineral block, apples, and carrots. Day two no deer but on day three the deer is back and about the same routine.
So last night we are sitting outside enjoying the weather and she sees her deer about 1/4 mile across the field. She grabs an apple and starts walking down the driveway hoping the deer would see her and come visit. For the past few days there have been people that work for the tree farm removing stumps and cleaning recently plowed fields. The wife disappears from view so I get the golf cart and head down driveway to give her a ride. Once I get over the rise in the driveway I see the wife talking to one of the tree farm workers. As I get closer I notice there are actually 5 people working, three of which are kids. Then I see the deer hanging with the kids. Could not believe my eyes as deer are the most skittish animal I know of and this thing is more like a large dog than a deer. I later find out the deer is somewhat a neighborhood pet that visits three or four houses within a mile or so. My guess is the wife will be giving it a name soon and it will probably be Bambi.

I have a family of red fox and bobcats living on my property. Funny watching their interactions. Both have kits now and come to my pond daily for water. Cool to have wild animals trust you enough to not bolt and run at the sight of you. I go by at 100' on the atv and they just look at me. I don't try to get close or feed them.

I stopped for lunch and while making a sandwich I see the deer 5' from the kitchen window. She starts walking toward my shop and stood there just looking inside. Got bored and walked on. Very strange to me but really cool.

Got a brother who has a lake house at Canyon Lake,Tx. They aren't fond of the deer there because of the number of them.

Here are a few videos from the area.

I used to be a big hunter. I quit hunting 30 years ago. I still like going in the woods and seeing all the critters though. We have a lot of deer down here in my area. In fact there's so many they've almost becoming nuisance
