2.4 BP on a XR2 mid (and XR2 exhaust tuner)

    Hello,

How would an engine act if i dropped a 2.4 bridgeport on a XR2 (2.0L) exhaust tuner? The mid and lower are from the XR2, only the powerhead is 2.4.
Would this result in bad hole shot or something?

It would be best if you put a bp 1 piece tuner on, then you would be all good to go. You can run the bp with the 2pc tuner, but it would be good to match the exhaust ports. Not mandatory, but it would be good to at least smooth them if you left the offset (the bp exhaust outlet is longer than the xr2). The 2.0 had a 2:1 ratio so just prop accordingly, nothing will be bad with holeshot.

2L's generally have longer tuners for bottom end. Ports will match and you probably wont see much of a difference unless your running a light set up and spinning it to the moon.

tha main thing ya gotta address is tha coolin' stuff.. tha BP won't have stats or a poppet.. unless someone has been there already....

If i buy it, it will be put on a light boat boat not run hard. No racing/top speed application.

Does the BP not have thermostats? How does it get up to temperature then? What can be wrong with the cooling and what has to change to adapt it?

a one piece adapter is tha norm for a BP.. it won't have stats or poppet.. tha BP "SHOULD" have restrictor washers in place of stats and no poppet.. washers probably 1/8 in hole.. you might need to replace 'em with either stats or washers with tha 3/8 in hole.. you will also need to add a poppet when using tha stock 150 adapter plates... jmo.

    I second the above statement.

Couldn't he just plug the poppet cover hose outlet and let whatever water goes through there trickle down through the poppet outlets in the 2pc plate? Then just control the water temp through the washer hole size in the heads?

My advise, unless your going to run above 7k for long periods keep your cooling system stock.
Run a poppet and thermostats. I've cold seized several motors trying to run racing cooling setups incorrectly on motors
that didn't see over 6900 for several hours. Motors need to run warm and at the correct operational temp's to perform and survive.
Check out US1 top pinned pistons, he has great info on do's and don'ts on cooling setups.

doesn't work that way with a 2 piece.. tha poppet controls a lot of block water exit.. without it a two piece won't jus trickle.. with a one piece tha plate controls exit.. if ya notice a hot rods with a one piece doesn't have tha by-pass hose from top of block ta poppet cover... tha early hot rods didn't even have a discharge on tha poppet cover either...

have run justa 'bout every combination possible over tha years (99% switch box motors) till i quit.. had tha basics for each but seemed like had ta always "tweak" some part of it ta get temps i was lookin' for..

don't think any combination is cast in stone with how and/or what ta run when it comes to tha coolin' parts of (other than bone stock production motors) merc's for whatever reason..... jmo

To clarify: what is a 1 piece or 2 piece tuner? Is this regarding the exhaust or the plate between the mid and powerhead?
And whats the difference between a 1 piece and 2 piece? Perhaps some photos will be helpful

He is talking about the adapter plate, yes. Not really the tuner. We have a habit of talking about them all as one.

1 piece = most high performance stuff. No poppet in the block
2 piece = all fishing motors including your 2.0 150 hp XR2 mid.

    2 piece:

    Thanks a lot!
Another question: is it correct that the XR2 and ither offshire engines does not have trim senders?
