    Hi,

i decided to go for a straight skeg since we have not experienced any issues with crabbing running 89 mph with the 400R. The G3 hydraulic pump to be used with the 450R is also much stronger than the standard Verado pump.

So we see how it will perform. The engine to be rigged primo August. Before that I need to buy some parts to the rigging such as bigger fuel lines, new G3 pump, rig kit, prop etc.

    Cheers Toffen

    Hi!

Its US and UK Phantoms. The UK Phantoms are not in business anymore. However, Chaudron in Malta has many similarities in design.

    Cheeers ! Toffen

    Phantom 25 1985 - Merc 450R

    Hi!

    Now its going forward.

400R off and sold. Stainless Marine Gorilla jack is off and sold.

The jacplate has been solid as rock for 10 years now, but since I run the propshaft 2 inches above the bottow, everything has to be rigged to the top. The new Bobs Extreme Gen III has a slideplate higher than the transomside, so its more suitable for my application.

New steering hoses, GEN3 pump, etc need to be rigged. New fuel filter, fuel hoses and tank pickup. Electrical set up with new fuses, harnesses, etc. So it will take its time.

The engine will be mounted with the propshaft 2,5 inches below the bottom at the lowest. This makes it possible to fine tune the propshaft at WOT 2-2,25 inches above the bottom.

We have two props ordered, one Max5 15 dia standard tube 27 inch pitch - and one Max5 15,25 dia short tune (ST) 27 inch pitch.

We will also mount winddeflectors such as Tuff 24 and Tuff 28.

    Cheeers, Toffen

    Hi!

Measured propshaft height today. The picture shows propshaft 2 inches above the bottom. Just as 400R sweet spot. At that height we did 25psi with the 400R. Question is if the 450R will do the same. It should as the lower unit is the same.

    Hi!

    Update from Lillesand

Top speed so far 93,3 MPH at 6,250 rpms in very calm weather. Max5 - 15,25" diameter - short tube - 27 pitch prop. Propshaft 2 inches above the bottom. Water pressure apporx 23 psi.

Boat going straight as a train and no handling issues.

I think we can get it to 94 mph in more ideal conditions. Up from 88 mph with 400R. The 450R is a GT40 compared to 400R being a Mercedes AMG

Only issue is steering going hot, and we are working on how to solve that.

I will post some videos and photo soon
