    Phantom 25 1985 - Merc 450R

    Hi!

    Hope all are well

Then I have put the 450R in the shopping basket, and if I am lucky I will receive it in August since the dealer made an order 5 months ago. Lucky me.

I will post the rerigg and performance data.

During the 23 years I have owned my boat, I have run several engine configurations:

    Johnson V8 3.6 GT 300hp + = 75 mph
    Promax 300 SVS - 75 mph
    Twin Merc 2.5 Efi SS w/PCU = 87 mph
    Verado 350 Sci = 81,5 mph
    Verado 400R = 89 mph

So we see what we can get out of the 450R. Possibly 95 mph with the same type of propeller - Max5. Maybe more with a 5bl Hill / Merc cleaver.

    Look forward to it !

    Cheeers, Toffen

350 SCi wasn’t available with a Sportmaster, 400R was first Verado available with a Sporty. Raised propshaft height with bottom water pickup makes a big difference.
A problem is only a problem when viewed as a problem...

The 350Sci had more mid punch than 400R. The propshaft was 2 inches below with 350 Sci and I run the propshaft 2 inches above with the 400R. The difference between 1,5 inches above and 2 inches above is 3 mph in itself So the Sportmaster makes a great deal

    Hi

I have a straight skeg on my 400R Sportmaster. I experienced torque issues with my HD 350 Sci lower unit, but no such issues with the SM 400R. I am a little uncertain if I am to order a cambered skeg on my 450R SM or not. My gut feeling is that a cambered skeg will make the boat more predictable at WOT, especially reaching close to 100 mph. What do you think? The boat runs without any chinewalk and steer straight at WOT with the 400R.

Will the cambered skeg steal speed at cruise speed?

    Cheeers, Toffen
