Need Yamaha advice blown 130hp
Ok, I have a friend who on Saturday was running in at 4000 rpms and it stopped. He was able restart if after about 5-10 minutes and to idle back in.
1998 130hp with 1499 hours. Other three holes have 118-120 compression. Starboard top cylinder has ZERO compression. We are in Maryland near Baltimore/DC.
Blackbird Motors near Pittsburgh, PA will rebuild his motor the same day for $3,500. He is eager to be ready for fishing season.
What do you guru’s think, or those who have used this service. Should he stick with his appointment for 5/4/21 so he can hit the water 5/5/21? If not, where should he take it? He doesn’t have time to do the rebuild himself and I’m not doing that anymore.
I’m an OMC guy—now with a Merc 250XS on my Stream and had a 1989 Yamaha 200 on my old Hydrostream Voyager and loved it.
He’d consider a drop-on, fully dressed. But, replacing with a new 150 was also on the table. What recommendations or deals are there?
thanks in advance.Sea ya, Sleekster

^^agree^^
And it seems to me that 3500 is a bit steep for a fishin motor rebuild, even if it is same day. And how can they guarantee same day on an engine rebuild!? What warranty comes with that rebuild? Like SSM said, somethin burned it up. One day is hardly enough to rebuild a motor much less diagnose and issue and find the parts to repair it. Then to warranty the work like any decent shop. Somethin sounds odd there. But then again, I have zero experience with that shop.
All together a drop on from Chris would be the way to go. And I would expect a drop on 130 hp to cost less then 3500 shipped to your door!

Black bird has some reputation problems it seems. Check em out well before dealing with them.
Chris Carson on the other hand is rock solid.

Yep
Blackbird may be fine now but spent yrs building/selling junk so......
Chris Carson is the real deal and sounds like the perfect solution to me.
Sorry I missed your message yesterday.
Started a new job and am smokin busy.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

congrats!! No worries. I agree with you. I’ve passed this onto Jim. I might even help with the drop on swap.
crazy here, too. Lake house went live, 9 bookings within the first 24 hrs!! One for an 11 day stay. Rental goes on the market next week, finally. Then work starts in earnest on the flip. Hopefully within 3 months that will be sold. It’s a sellers market, still.
then I might list my 2003 Hydrostream Voyager w/ the 250XS (213 hrs)Sea ya, Sleekster
