The original install was a pedal fabricated from a Cushman Truckster by a couple 22 year old nitwits at 2 AM fortified by a generous amount of beer. If I were to do it today I would probably glass in a half inch piece of plywood with studs sticking out of it. That being said, the installation have never presented any problems over the years. The biggest regret is the bolts showing on the outside of the hull, but even that isn't all that noticeable. The angle of the pedal presents no problems. Do what works best for you but I'm not sure you'd be happy with the amount of area you have for a heel rest on a long day on the water.
