We should have a 3.4 on my sons STV within the next week. Looking forward to anticipated "trouble free" boating for him.

Maybe there is hope for a V6 R in the future with some warranty. Motor sounds awesome on that video

Given that they have a 225hp v6 consumer motor with a shiftable gearcase...the 200 apx has no shiftable case and higher rpm...doesn't make sense that its 200hp.
With the recent testing of the APX 200 against the NLA 2.5 200XS ROS it looks like the "200" 3.4 is more like 240-250hp.

You probably need to define "lightweight". Only 4 stroke outboard I have noticed that resembles light weight was the F1 experiment based on the V8 Hartwell/Suzuki.

A light race outboard would probably be something like one of the high performance PWC engines. Superbike technology with boost. But that isn't going to promote sales for the center console mass market.

You probably need to define "lightweight".

Anything in the mid 400 LB range is the "new lightweight". Pretty much every 20 foot performance hull can handle that.

The last "lightweight" Mercury with Opti tech was the 2.5 200XS ROS. Before that it was the 225X and before that the Promax.

I would say that if Mercury can get to a true weight (not what they publish) on a scale with fluids of 450 lb or less for the V6 3.4 four stroke with Sportmaster and offer it with warranty, it would appeal to a broad portion of boaters. No where near what the V8 appeals to for sure, but a pretty decent group IMO. I'm hopeful they do it but who knows.

Merc lies more about weight then our wives. I have a brochure showing the 200XS ROS at 434 lb. No regrets about the 200XS hanging on my SS2000. It will be a while before a better motor for me appears.

They advertise each motor in the lightest configuration possible. Lightest mid, case, etc. for each model available.

What cutouts? On the bottom (steps) or on the top, the round disks?

I thought when I first saw the video that there was a vent or step in the black triangle just behind the driver. Now I think I was mistaken. Sorrytunnel boat with 200 four stroke.pdf
