Another big question for the APBA membership out there (if there is any?) is whether the 2 stroke mid section and #6 gearcase are adaptable to the 200 APX power head? From the graghics shown on this site, the only things that appear to be adaptable are the clamp bracket, trim ram and steering trunnion. The mid section is completely different. If Merc Racing has moved the drive shaft in any direction of changed its length, any hopes of adapting the #6 gearcase are totally lost. i.e. if you want one of the 200 APXs you'll be buying the whole thing and getting whatever you can for your 2 stroke stuff.

If mercury wanted to “signal” and make a lot of boaters elated they would offer a bolt on power head that fits the existing v6 mids that was priced reasonably and had plenty of room to grow power wise. They could push this as a loss leader in co sponsorship with apba and other boat racing associations giving them the presence of market that the fun factor is alive and well and moving green.
Plenty of people sitting cooped up right now looking for something to go see and do. Consider the instant mega success of the freedom factory at the moment. Street outlaws etc. Plenty of appetite for racing out there. Everyone loves boats but most have given up to the idea that it’s a rich man only arena hence the audience. There is a market of excitement in the middle. Crack it open and let’s all have some funHydrostream dreamin

I'm gonna second what was mentioned before, they probably put out more than 200 hp. Either that or its been de-tuned, but I doubt that cause it spins past what the consumer motors do. Given that they have a 225hp v6 consumer motor with a shiftable gearcase...the 200 apx has no shiftable case and higher rpm...doesn't make sense that its 200hp.
As far as the weight thing...I work for a merc dealer and still I think the weighing without the gearcase and such is stupid. Yeah they have different options and such that weigh different, but give the dry weight with oil, an aluminum prop, 20" and a torquemaster. That gives a better understanding of weight to an uneducated consumer than a outboard weight with no case or oil or anything...that just makes no sense and it is for advertisement/bragging/trynabethelightest it is not because they have options that weigh so durastically different weights. Come on, be real.
Is the dry weight for the apx series given without the gearcase and transmission? If it is that just proves my point that its for marketing, cause thats the only case that fits on the motor! If the weight includes these then finally some real info from merc! (I honestly don't know what the weight specs are for)

Another video, more engine sounds...
A problem is only a problem when viewed as a problem...

I'd like to think that this race only motor could lead to a 400lb true weight V6 motor for consumers that makes 250hp and has warranty. Perhaps a tall order.

Seems 'lightweight' 4 stroke options that provide good power are "attainable" - why aren't we getting them though? Maybe we will?

A consumer version would never make the price point.

The people who have actually tested the Apex Motors are really excited about them being homogenized in the near future. The more testing the better. Definitely a step in the right direction to get new blood and money in the sport.
