    Stuck head bolts

I'd like to take my heads off to clean any dirt and gravel the back flush didn't get out but a couple of head bolts are stuck and I don't want to break them. Any tricks for getting them out?

Only one way to take them out. Good ol lefty loosey. If you can break them loose to get them started out just work them out slowly. Back them out a couple turns then turn them in a turn. Repeat until they're out. Id be more worried about taking out the aluminum block threads than breaking the bolt. You could try letting the engine idle to warm up first too.

I have worked on Mercs for the past 45 years or so and had never busted a head bolt. Then came along this one motor that had to come apart but did not want to. Actually broke 15 of the 24 bolts. Put block on Bridgeport and at the end of the day the block had studs. Bad thing is thy all went in great except for one and it was a nightmare. By the time stud was in block it was not perfect and I had to enlarge holes in that head about .030. Still worked fine just a little embarrassing. Try some heat and penetrating oil and be patient which is not my strong suit and possibly why I had so many break. Good luck

Impact gun, break bolt or strip threads. Repeat as needed.

if it comes to it remove all the wiring and rubber stuff and heat with MAP...yeah I haven't had any I couldn't get out yet, but plenty that would not come out without heat.
