Running flat out, if you can run the hull clear of the water (or very close to it) there is no drag from the water, only wind resistance. Tuff boats all run pretty much clear of the water. Doesn’t it seem possible that a V hull could do the same speed as a cat if it’s only down to aerodynamics? The only things left are weight and power, Tuff scores pretty well in that department.

The 24 Tuff with a single 300 is faster then a 24 Skater would be with a single 300. Less aero drag from the narrow beam?

To build lift takes power.
An airplane wing carries load but not w/o a bunch of power.
Put a 28 Tuff and a 28 Skater in a wind tunnel.
Ill bet LARGE on the Tuff.
Less frontal area and coefficient of drag than the Skater.
As Rak Rua says above, if the hulls not touching the water, why is a cat faster?
Control starts surfacing at those speeds too though.
Way easier, more stable, safer for an experienced pilot to fly a cat than a vee.
As in, “I drive an Allison because I CAN drive an Allison”.
Watch the video of the Fountain kilo run.
168 I think.
In a vee!
Not a Fountain fan but as a vee bottom guy, that video is pure sex!
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

Instigator is 100% correct until it comes to waves and cross wash getting involved with the equation. Then you want to Skater across the tops of everything in your path.

How is that offshore boats the fastest V-hull is 186 mph and a cat is north of 200? I was told that Tuff boat at the shootout had twin 450's. I have owned an Allison, a Fountain and a Pantera V-hull. I am done trying to go fast in a V-hull. Cats ride so much better.

It for a fact had 300xs on it. They have never run a twin 450 combo on one ever. They are building a 34 for twin 450s now though.

Brad the Tuff that ran at the shootout that ran 112 has stock 300xs motors. They played with it after that for awhile and work the setup to 117
the other 28 that year at the shootout went 98 with 300r motors. They struggled with the big gearcases, it now runs 110. The 300xs is a carbon boat, but full interior and big stereo. The 300r boat is a glass boat2023 TUFF 25

Add that they are building a 28 with a single 450 that they expect to run 100 plus. They have a 34 with that 1350 that is expected to well eclipse the 28 with the 860 that ran 137 and a twin 450 34 is also being built

IMO, you hit a point where a vee stops working @ WFO.
Where the cat/tunnel transitions into being flown and not driven, the vee becomes more and more on edge.
Yrs ago I hit a submerged log in my STV River Rocket at 95 mph.
I know it was 95 because that’s as fast as it would go w/2 of us in it.
At that speed I liked to fly the bow so when we lost power, w/the bow up, it was crabbing so it tried to hook and spit us out when it came down.
Luckily we both stayed in the boat.
My buddy who was w/me, who would never ride in my 100 mph Hydrostream Vector said, and I will never forget this, “if we were in your Vector it probably would have killed both of us”.
I told him he was right.
It crabbed way worse and surely would have barrel rolled and eaten us both.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.
