Shift cable retainer?
Looking for a little help. I removed an old style mercury control box with the combo throttle, shift, key switch and installed a Hardin Marine shift lever. The shift cable on the lever end has the black plastic cylinder on it to lock the cable housing in place. Anybody know a part available to retrofit something to hold the cable housing in place?
I've also seen cables with a groove in the housing end that a clamp can go over and hold the housing from moving. Sort of a flat piece of metal with a half circle in it that screws over the cable housing to lock it in place.
My housing is smooth other than the black plastic cylinder. Hot Foots have a similar mount where the plastic cylinder slides in then a cotter pin holds it in place.
I know I can change out the cable to one with the groove in the housing but I'd rather find a part to make this work. Thanks.Bullet CC w/ 225 Promax - Sold

Thanks guys. I have a piece of aluminum square bar. Think I'll try to fab something. Drill a hole in end and cut a slot for the housing. See if that works out.

The Hardin Marine N control shifter takes a gen 2, as it only has a metal U clip to hold in the cable.

However, Hardin sells a gen 1 cable attachment kit that mounts with 1 screw, you gotta see if your box can accept that screw.

I bought this one so there's no cable mount provided. My cable is Gen 1. I think I can fab something to work. Thanks for the input.

Closer look, yes that little adapter from N Control would probably work. I'd just need a longer screw. This is mounted to a piece of maybe 3/8 wood that's been glassed over like you see in STV Pro Comps.

I had the same issue bought a Rex shifter from a member on here. I fabricated out of a piece of thick plastic drill the hole for the barrel to be inserted and put a clamp right behind it. Worked fine for me but only had it installed for one season so far
