87 valero yt, yamaha pro v setup, prop advice
Hi, looking for some advice on setting up my valero yt.
Hull has been gone thru and solid.
Has a 150 pro v yamaha - 6" manual. Jack plate has 2:1 gears, with the following mods.
Last year - Hydro tec carbs 34 mm
4 petal to 8 petal reed block or cage mod (can't remember) , carbon fibre reeds.
(Picked up 5 mph from stock 74 to 79 mph-15 x 30 labbed merc cleaver ) for sale or trade. It didnt like passengers. Realize it's too much wheel.
This year - all hydro tec
High per. Heads
Tuner
Solid mounts.
Bob's big foot nose cone lwp.
Full rebuild
I blame the 26p chopper running 6600 rpm. 76 mph. Motor had never been apart, 2 scored cylinders.
I need advice on motor height and a good all around prop to carry a couple of 200 pounders. That's just the girlfriend and her sister. Also a good top speed prop.
Pad still has hook in it from factory. Probably gone next winter.
How fast do you think it will go with right set up? Props? motor height?
Thanks

79 is pretty good for a lightly modified 150. But those hulls are not the best for carrying weight and cleavers are not the first choice for weight.
Loaded I would try a Trophy or Tempest. Light an ET, Drag 4, chopper

Thanks David, I appreciate the help.
So a 28p or 29p x 14.5" trophy or tempest style thru hub for all around. And a 32p x 14.5 chopper ET or drag 4 for top speed with 1 or 2 guys.88' valero yt 150 pro v (hydrotec carbs and reeds)

I’d back off a bit on pitch. What is the target rpm?

I'm thinking 6500 rpm. Rev limiter has been removed.

If I remember, I was running 6400- 6500 rpm with 30p x 15 cleaver after first mods.
6600 maybe 6700 rpm with 26p x 14" chopper.88' valero yt 150 pro v (hydrotec carbs and reeds)

I would try 30 chopper or ET. A four blade usually needs less pitch, maybe 28.
26 might be enough for running with a load or pulling toys

79mph with a 150 is pretty damn good. I'm a big fan of the 26 and 24 Trophy props for all around performance.
They can carry a load and they don't mind being ran a little higher. A lot of good prop guys can bang on them to customize
for your setup.

It should be coming back with about 225 to 235 hp.
I'm thinking that it didn't have trouble turning the 30p x 15" prop stock.
So I will be looking for a 28p chopper style for all around and a 32 et style for top end.
Probably end up buying new unfortunately for my wallet.
I guess just mess with the motor height as I go. Anyone have a good starting point for motor height.88' valero yt 150 pro v (hydrotec carbs and reeds)
