late 80's 2.0 ignition switch, might need a new one

    This boat:
    https://photos.app.goo.gl/T6HzVjsAjMwDRBCfA

So I broke the key off in the lock core. Fortunately I managed to get it out. But I don't have a spare key. It's a Sea Dog key and I DO have the code on it. BUT, for the life of me and whatever frail google skills I have, I cannot seem to find out how to get another key, even though I have the code.

    Failing that...

I might have to buy a new ignition switch with new keys. If so, what would you buy?

    Third...

And I've done this before, I'm thinking of just breaking out the wires to toggles. One for ignition, one for crank, and one for enrichment and be done with it. I'm not too worried about it being stolen. The boat is never out of our sight, or else it is in the garage or shop bay. Plus where I boat, old outboards are rare and nobody wants them anyway.

Toggles is nice. Plenty of wiring info on how to do that.

If you get a new key switch I'd just use any marine switch that has the same number of positions and wires. Probably a 3 position switch with 5 or 6 wires.

    + (red?)
    - (red?)
    choke (yellow/blk?)
    ign+ (purple?)
    start sol. (yel/red?)
    kill (black/yel)

Early merc harnesses had different colors, so if you have like white and orange wires then you gotta dig for those color schemes

'Bum, you've always been a great help over the years, thanks again, mate.

I was in Ft. Lauderdale yesterday BTW. Our layover hotel is the B Ocean on Seabreeze/A1A before it turns inland on the 17th street drawbridge. Is that anywhere near you or your shop?

    Sure is...

I used to rent one of those battery scooters or get a free bike from the hotel. But Lauderdale shut down the scooters and the hotel is running scared of the Woohan Flu, and got rid of their bikes. So it's 2+ mile walk, each way, for me. :-(

Was dragging my feet but I just sent a message to SeaDog. Thanks for that. If I get no love from them, it's off to easykeys, also as per your link.

Just to follow up in case anyone is interested... SeaDog does NOT carry spare keys. Even if you have the code. The coding on them is probably something that comes automatically with whomever the order keys from.

I'll go hit up easy key now. Thanks again 'Bum for the link.

Ok, new SeaDog switches are cheap enough it's not even worth trying to track down a replacement key, even if you know the code, which I do. Seadog does not sell replacement keys.

So, real quick, for the 1987 style Mercury remote, the one with the push button to release the throttle to spin up without engaging the gear box (push button instead of paddle that you raise), like this one I found on Ebay, which 3-position SeaDog switch do I need from this list? 6-screws? or 5-screws and a boss? Here... are the choices as I see them.

    Thanks, guys.

So, ordered, installed and am using a new SeaDog switch. Had a great day on the lake today. New switch working great. The new switch came with two keys. This time I'm going to see if I can get a couple more cut before I break them both.

Anyway case closed. Thanks for all the input.
