Lanyards don't work if you don't wear them..... 99% of the people out there boating never wear the lanyard....

Is this new law applicable to state owned inland waters or federal waters or both?

Looks like its a federal reg so it applies to all waters including state but not including private lakes. Basically anywhere where you are required to register a vessel.
2 days ago they were $175 on amazon, now they are $259...what does that tell you? I'm just waiting for LandnSea to get them so I can get a few at wholesale...
No way its worth $259 for a kill switch. A year ago when the guy bought the one I installed it cost him under $150...now they are leveraging the reg to make their money.Last edited by 25two.stroke; 03-24-2021 at 11:05 AM.

10 bucks for the old style lanyard switch. They can shove 250 bucks where the sun don't shine.

Cannot see how they have reasonable suspicion? They simply go for the next closest boat after letting the other of the hook. They never sit idle with out some one pulled over. They claim its a safety check but it is a damn pain as you do not want to be the closest boat when one breaks free. Tax revenue is all I can think of? Always 6-10 Coasty's on the boat too.

How will the water cops enforce the wearing of the lanyard? I know that at the launch, the county cops, or rangers have asked to see safety equipment, like life preservers, etc.

For the coast guard its a training grounds in Grand Haven and they need to issue inspection stickers for locals so they are not pulled over repeatedly. It used to be Ottawa county were the ones that never shut their lights off. I have never been bothered by the C.G. but I had my attorney contact the sheriffs dept. and let them know that they would soon be facing an harassment suit if I continued to be stopped and held up for 20 minutes every time I was headed past the wall. I was pulled over on my way out and on my way in two hours later for a "safety check" and that put me over the edge.

In Maine....
Federal waters - "Federal waters" means all the waters not internal and subject to the jurisdiction of the United States.
Internal Waters - "Internal waters" means waters under the exclusive jurisdiction of the State of Maine.

Down here the coasties will be at a restricted idle speed channel waiting. When you come by they will come up to you and place a boarding officer or 2 on your boat while you remain underway. They then check out everything and give out paper. A boarding pass, or a fine. The rib then picks the crew up at the end of the idle zone. They really looking for drinkers and catch many operators with a beer in the drink holder.(hand) BTW They don't do the idle for the manatees crap. They run back and forth at a good clip waking the heck out of everybody. This is the only problem I have with it since i'm always in compliance.

Ecos
Law should have been written to say Step 1: ECOS? Yes or No.......Step 2: Tethered to driver? (while running).....simple. Idling around or above planing speed wording is doo-doo. BUIs are on the up tick and not like the old days. Get a BUI and not have an ECOS? Find your lawyer's phone number.......

this came about in Britain, a family of 4 got bounced out of their rib boat, it continued doing its spiral death circle until it killed 2 of them. Now how do I wire this up on a merc outboard with a mercury ignition switch...
looks like the black goes to gnd. And the other goes to where on a merc outboard.Last edited by SUNKIST; 04-19-2021 at 06:30 AM.

Black with yellow stripe. It's the kill circuit. Also goes to the key switch.
